bench workouts can be tough, too. maybe not near as tough as deadlift, but deadlift goes up very fast while bench just stays there

I don't keep track of the guy or anything. I just remember seeing one of his videos a while back that was much better than the one posted earlier. FWIW a meet bench can be way lower than even a good gym lift. You don't press until the judge says so, and that pause can take everything out of a lifter.

deadlifting is such a raw power move, it uses pretty much every muscle you need to use in everyday life. deads build strength that actually has a purpose. A big dead lift is definitely more respectable than big bench. When do you ever run into situations where your pec strength does anything?
