Lately doing squats has been hurting my back. I dont use a belt although I could buy one. I also use the sled which has turned into my main compounish exercise.

My form is good, and I have no previous medical condtion. It only hurts at the bottom of the lift, and even hurts on the laying squat machine.
I do quite a bit of lower back work.
Is it because Im too tall?6'5" 221lbs

Check your form dude. You might think your using good form when your not. Have someone watch you and make sure your not bending to far forward. Also make sure your lower back is not sore going into squats. All i could think of. Hope it helped. peace

Being tall does make a difference. I'm 6'3" myself so i'm even a bit shorter than you, and still i have to use a lot of lower back in full range of motion squats.
What I've taken up doing is to do half range squats very heavy to build up power and size while i'm in the range of motion that doesnt bring my lower back in as much. For the lower part of my quads I vary what i use but it consists of leg press, hack squats, and leg extensions.
Hope that helps bro
