Try walking 3 to 5 miles a day for a week or two. Start with slow pace jogging, at a pace you can talk to someone.. Once your able to jog 5 miles with out stopping try increasing the pace little by little. Should take about a month to go from never jogged before to jogging 5 miles non stop.

That's what it took for me atleast. Jog every other day 3 to 5 miles, walk on your off days.

I would do exactly what you are doing; thats what i did @ 250lbs+. I would run for as long as I could and then walk. repeat. after a while i actually started to enjoy it. now i can run 5 miles no prob. gl.

15 minutes a mile would be okay that's what your doing now. I was in your boat about a month ago.. I hardly made it 1/2 a mile before I was dieing.. But if you find a slower pace you can go longer and get in better shape, I'm still being held back by my legs.. But wanting to jog 10 miles and run the mile in the 6 min range. I get bored after 5 miles jogging though.

Work in some sprints with some 30 second breaks in between, they seem to be helping me.

Just keep at it. Focus more on time than distance. Set goals to walk/jog for 1 hour 4-5 times a week. You'll start to see changes in your cardiovascular ability in a short time. Start adding some hills if you can, they'll help you a lot. Good luck, you'll be running before you know it.

I saw some information that suggests that starting out by jogging 1 minute and walking 29, followed by the next day is 2 min. jogging and 28 walking and so on....might help get to a good base. I don't know how effective this would be.

breath in your nose and out the mouth , dont dry your lungs out.

Work on running 1/4 and walking 1/4

repeat up to 1 or 2 miles. After that work on running one full mile , not as fast as you can but aim for 10 minutes.

IYou'll also want to work on getting to a 3:2 ratio of inhale to exhale. That is 3 steps while inhaling and 2 steps for exhaling. Breathing rhythm while running will help alot.

I have been jogging then walking for about 4 months now. I can now job about 0.4 miles before I feel like dying. When I run with a guy from work I push myself to run further, but he stopped running. There were a few times that I totally stopped running for about 2 weeks at a time. The main problem I have is my calves get huge and hurt. I stop and stretch them and they still hurt. Even if I walk quickly my calves start hurting the same way. I have never been good at running, when I was in HS football I was able to run one mile. I weighed 190lbs at 6' tall and had my stomach muscles showing. The only way I ran a mile then was because I had someone there telling me I could do it. It also helped that that guy weighed 350lbs. I thought if he could do it I could do it. So good luck with your running.

f you want to start jogging, don't expect to walk out your front door and job five miles. You have to build up slowly, and it's easier than you think.

Really is easy if you stick to it and eat right. No junk food at all helps.

A few months ago, I decided I was gonna go for a jog and really get into it as a form of cardio. So without stretching or any kind of warm-up, I put on my sneakers and took off around my neighborhood. I made it about 0.25 miles before my shins damn near exploded. Jogging is DEF something you wanna ease into. Make sure you stretch, and keep your strides nice and "heel-toe".
Got frustrated trying to figure out what "eating clean" even means, so I just had a burrito. IIFYM Crew is persuasive

i've tried this, but it get old sometimes. try walking first before jogging.
try this 5mins interval for the jogging part and hold it when you hit 15mins for 3 days, then increase your 5mins interval again...

Don't beat yourself up about this. Before I had a hard time running like yourself. I would run less than a mile and want to die but, I had really good friends who pushed me and believed in me. They would give me a 5 minute head start and catch up to me and when I tried to give up cause they caught me. They would not let me stop even if I felt like throwing up.

So every day after lifting we would run 2 miles and they would sign me up for all the 5k fun runs. After a while I fell in love with it and I have them to thank for losing 55 lbs of fat.

So now that is my inspiration I refuse to go back to being 55 lbs overweight. I am still pushing my limits I can probably run cirlces around my 20 year old self.

I would say get with someone you work with and compete and after a while it would be part of your daily life.

    Peace

jogging or even being active WAS absolutely not my thing when i started my life change.. but i kinda naturally knew what i had to do

Every time i jogged i pushed it just alittle bit more..if you have to walk to catch your breath its ok...but the main thing is make sure your running just alittle more each time... and before you know it... youll be able to run for so long you wont have to stop...When i started couldnt run for 2 ****ing minutes.... now i run 45-60 minute runs for FUN..

Slow and steady wins the race.. if you try to push too hard youll fail.. take it slow and get your Jogging and FORM down... your breath will naturally increase. When i started running my form was no where near what it is now... It Becomes more efficient, more steady, to allow for more oxygen to be used more efficiently for longer runs.

You have to start interval training...and slowly pushing yourself to go farther and farther while jogging...not walking.

There are two ways you can go...

    1) simply extend the time you jog/walk for...

    2) decrease walking time to get a more intense workout

The latter will build endurance much faster than the former...and will lead to a better over all fitness level...

You need to slowly start diminishing the amount of laps you walk..so that eventually you are jogging all 10 laps...instead of walking 1/jogging 1 etc...

    Start small...

it takes time to become better at it...

And you will find that when you discontinue your routine for weeks or months...you will be thrust back to where you started...

This is why it is important to make it in to a routine..as this is the only way you will increase physical fitness...

I would suggest starting on a treadmill. Running indoors is much easier on your lungs also you will be able to run constantly at a steady pace.

wherever you choose to run - You need to start running at a slow steady pace which you can maintain for about 30-40 minutes (even if that means at walking pace) and then gradually increase speed as you get fitter.

I recently started to run every morning before work. I used to run 6 miiles 4 days a weeek before work & it did wonders for getting me in shape & my diet.

My problems are not my lungs its my legs need to be eased back into it. I have been running 20 min so far. Next week I will bump it up 5 min. I will continue to do that until I reach 45 min.

Run until you can't, than walk until you think you can run some more. Keep doing that & you will be running 5 miles in no time.
