Traps taking over in DB Laterals

    Hey guys,

for the first time ever during my last work out when doing DB laterals my traps were burning like a bastard. My form is usually pretty good and i always feel it in my shoulders.

any tips for taking traps out of the equation a little on the laterals?

    cheers

    1. Keep a bend in the elbow, if you aren't already.
    2. Try the "pouring the water" twist technique.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

it might be that you're using a bit too much weight than ur side delts can handle, so traps are recruited? or try lessen the ROM, like raise the db to shoulder height or lower

    *almost* this.

rather than dbs to shoulder height, use the "pouring water" twist, and take elbows to shoulder height or 1" below--dbs should be very slightly lower when you're "pouring".

that will put the emphasis very, very squarely in your delts.

Try cable side raises from across the front of the body. These pre-stretch your side delts.

Try higher reps on your DB raises, and don't cheat at all; experiment with body position to minimize trap use.

Go lighter and get a good mind/muscle connection. Dont go over paralell and Keep your hands turned down to focus on the lateral head.

try pushing your arms away from your body. As in, you are standing holding the dumbells hanging down, push your arms towards the floor and your reach will elongate slightly. Try and hold this position throughout the lateral raise

Number 2 should really be listened to, a very good point and if you (threadstarter) do this and the weights you are lifting aren't too heavy then you will start to notice it more in your shoulders.
