I know if my brothers and I were there we would probably do something stupid like head out to Pat O'Brien's out in the French Quarter and drink Hurricanes. I grew up out there. Sure do miss it a lot. Be careful out there.

I'm in Lafayette.
8:15 AM getting windy- rain is starting.
Storm has just been downgraded to cat2 just before making landfall- the colder water pulled it down.
I've gone through Andrew,Lily, and Rita based on everything I've seen my estimate is it will be worse than Lily but not as bad as Andrew. I'm glad it's coming in the day- Andrew came at night and that was unnerving.Last edited by johnnyironboard; 09-01-2008 at 06:16 AM.

9:45 at mother in laws house with 7 dogs. Cranked AC down as low at it can go for the ineviatable poweroutage. Drinking about 1 diet coke per 10 minutes right now. Morgan City supposed to be hit in about 30 minutes. Right now eye is supposed to pass directly over us.
Cell phones and laptop all plugged in right now. Have car chargers for cell phones so it power is out for an extended period can plug it into the car. Text's should work all through the storm according to the provider's. may lose voice service for a while.

Good luck and stay safe. Huge spot in our hearts for the poeple of the south and especially southern LA. Couldn't sleep last night. I'll be thinking of all of you.

1:15 PM just got off the phone with new iberia- power is out. Eye to hit new iberia in about an hour- 70 mph sustained wind and rain.
We have steady rain and windy conditions- 55 mph gusts so far. A few tree limbs are down. Eye pushed back to about 4:00 PM for us- that may be alright if it gives the wind a chance to back off- I hope it keeps moving fast enough that rain doesn't get crazy.

Back home, have power, a few tree limbs in the back yard is the only damage. Hope it's all over- very thankful.
Once the Northern eyewall passed the storm seemed to fall apart. We had strong gusts and an oak tree split a house in half and killed a man- I was lucky and when you hear about folks that didn't make out so well it makes you realize how lucky you were.
