The SBS is technically the water side of things (swim out of submarine torp tubes and scale oil rigs etc) but they do everything they SAS do. They were active in northern ireland, iraq/afghanistan etc.

The media and hollywood see british special forces were involved and label it SAS. The UK government/military doesn't bother correcting them.

You have SEALS coming to the UK to train with the SBS and vice versa.

SAS and SBS both grew out of WWII. One is army and the other is navy/marines.
