Sure. I'm not anti drill. But have you looked at how we recycle plastic? We PAY china. We ship it all the way to China to get melted down (with large amounts of fuel) and then ship it back all around the world to be reused. A lot of it ends up getting dumped into the ocean. China collects the cash and decides it's cheaper and easier to dump it than to recycle it because they get paid up front. This is a superior alternative.

Well, we used to pay China, until they banned the import of used plastic. And the reason we paid China was because morons here couldn't be bothered to sort their plastics or take the receipts out of their grocery bags so we had to send it to a low wage country to get that done. Sending the plastic there doesn't really consume much fuel because we're a massive net importer from China, and sending old plastic that way just helps fill up what would be otherwise empty containers.

1) It disposes of the plastic so there is an auxiliary benefit beyond what energy you can get from the end product.

2) Wasted energy exists, this technology could be used to convert it into a more usable form.
