Either avoid screens for an hour before bed (impossible for some people), or download blue light blocking software like f.lux
srs I've used f.lux for a long time, and now if I disable it, the screen slowly goes back to "normal" after a few seconds and it's like looking at the sunWould kick em in the nuts

This is what I know:
-Caffeine effects stay with you for 2-3 days (serius). People assume "it is OK because I dont drink coffee after 12". Yes. You go to sleep but sleep is for 30mins- 2 hours and then you cant go to sleep for 5-6 hours. then you start feeling sleepy again. So your sleeping pattern is affected badly pay attention to that. You sleep for short periods of time only. Dont drink caffeine for 2-5 days then observe your sleep. Expresso machines make very strong coffee.
-Other foods affect your sleep too. Chilly, chocolate, some tea, some spices, red die in some soda drinks.
So dont eat pizza, indian food, spicy food, italian pasta before you go to bed.. I think you get the idea. Don't eat hot spicy food before you go to sleep.
Experiment with this and pay attention to your sleep after that.
A friend of mine had problems sleeping. That is how he fixed it.

Have you tried the supplement GABA? I have trouble sleeping too and it seems to work. I take 750 mgs. before bed. I'm worried that I'll build tolerance to it so I use it off and on.

Stop the sleeping pills and alcohol cold turkey, they don't help for sleep only make the issue worse.
I know you probably won't believe me, but I'm a lifelong insomniac and sleep training got me out of it. I now sleep a solid 7 a night.
People look for an easy way out with pills and booze, but if you have somewhat of a spine you should look up sleep training and sleep restriction. I won't lay out the details here, but if you wanna fix your sleep do that.

Ask for a lower dose?
I have a LOT of energy at night and I have always been that way.
I try to get a lot of exercise during the day to reduce energy.
I tend to like to take a shower at about 11PM, but this is a bad idea as I then feel great after the shower. That will keep me up at least until 1AM.
So, maybe avoid stimulating things like that.
I do not enjoy work too much and so I do a lot of hobbies at night. They make life more fun but can keep my mind going too fast, thus I trying to stop hobby activities by 9PM.
I have now been trying to read novels at bedtime as they make me tired.
I also use a psychology technique called "Thought stopping" which is like meditation. It's just where I count to 100 over and over. This sounds simple but really works well.
I will take a melatonin 20mg or 40mg around 9 or 10pm. That works to slow me down. If I take them later, then I wake up late. So, I take them early to avoid that, but they aren't strong enough to knock me out.
Finally, they say to avoid your bed unless it's to do to sleep. Don't lay there and struggle. This is to train yourself like a dog that bed is for sleep and nothing else.If you want to ask me a question:

Had bad sleeping issues a few years ago. Routinely would operate on 2-3 hours of sleep.
Sleep tab every night (makes you feel like chit the next day), coffee, energy drinks, pre-workout to get through the next day. Repeat daily for a year.
My heart started having weird flutters from all of this
I bought a new mattress, and one weekend where I had zero responsibilities, I decided to wake up at 6am no matter what, have no caffeine and force myself to stay awake (no naps). Video games helped me stay awake.
This reset my sleep schedule.
Then I would only have caffeine first thing in the morning and everyday wake up no later than 6.
~7 years later and I rarely have sleep issues, usually in bed 9-10pm and wake up at 5-5:30am without an alarm. Everyday.
Still, no caffeine past noon unless it’s from a small soda or vacation and I want a coffee or something.
