Closing gyms and encouraging people to stay indoors will go down as a serious misstep when we look back on COVID-19.
Gyms are a purely voluntary activity. If people were afraid they could ....... not go and if masks actually work, wear a mask if they so wish.
Some of the resistance to spreading the message about the correlation between D3 sufficiency and COVID-19 outcome is to avoid the public asking "Why did you encourage a lifestyle that increases D3 deficiency?".
INB4 inevitable binary thinking smooth brained comments:
You can get vaccinated AND get outdoor cardio and take a D3 supplement. If health was actually the primary driver of COVID-19 policy then this is exactly what the MSM would be promoting.Eat in a deficit to lose weight.

Neither are eggs. Turns out that a lot of ".... unhealthy food ....." is only unhealthy in circumstances where the individual is living a very unhealthy lifestyle.
If you are not in a calorie surplus, are not overweight and do consistent cardio, you can eat just about anything you want.Eat in a deficit to lose weight.

all these "anti-sugar" or "anti-fat", "anti-dairy" extremists are all phucking retarded. you don't need to go all or nothing to be healthy live a long life. in fact, it's probably better for your sanity and stress levels to eat the things you enjoy but eat some of the nutritionally deficient stuff in moderation. not one single thing is responsible for obesity it's a multitude of things. Not to mention people are sitting on their asses and watching netflix more than ever.
Here is an example:
Sugar consumption has actually gone DOWN since the 2000s since people like Gary Taubes started their whole anti-sugar fear-mongering. Why is it then obesity is still going up despite less sugar consumption? That isn't to say sugar isn't a contributor but it is only a small piece of the puzzle.
If people want to learn more about nutrition, guys like Alan Aragon and Stephan Guyenet are go to guys.positivity brah crew

Surely if we went from peak 110 lbs of sugar per year to around 90 lbs, if sugar was the boogeyman as everybody claimed, we perhaps would have seen at the very least a slowdown in the climbing obesity rates. an 18% or so decrease is alot but yet has done nothing.
I agree though, I actually think sedentary lifestyles are a much bigger deal when it comes to obesity. I think in the 80s and 90s anorexia nervosa was being talked about as a serious issue and got a lot of media attention, where somebody has a distorted view of their own body. But we've kinda gone to the extreme with that were now people should accept and be proud to be 40% body fat and obese sacks of chit.positivity brah crew

This meme always really hit me - and the worst part is it takes a lot of hard work to look like DLB (even with steroids) but it legit takes effort to get as bad as the one on the right - like you don't get busy or distracted for a month or two at the holidays and look like that. That is several years of letting yourself goBoomer Rep Crew #1

Depends on what your goals are.
The diet that has been linked to the greatest longevity and the lowest incidence of chronic illness (including diabetes, cv disease and cancer) is a primarily plant based diet rich in nuts, seeds, legumes, vegetables. Some fish is ok. Intermittent fasting or doing a fast mimicking diet x 5 days every 6 months is also beneficial.
If your goals are athletic performance, muscle mass, etc then a higher protein diet with highly bioavailable amino acid sources from animals is better— though this causes increases in igf-1 and the mtor gene pathway which are linked to cancer and cv disease risk.

I wasn't speaking of the optimal choices but people have gone on keto and now carnivore and showing that they improve their cholesterol, BP, BS, etc, a standard blood panel.
Now granted - in terms of weight loss, the vast majority of success comes from calorie restriction no matter what you are eating and the truth is, when most people try a new diet that focuses on what you eat, they very often restrict calories even if they are not aware out of the enthusiasm of starting. They also often increase their movement so the blood work improvements could be from these rather than the carnivore diet. However, to me it is more that people are increasing red meat and seeing improvement on the panels.Boomer Rep Crew #1

I really don't understand why this is still so difficult to comprehend. This isn't aimed at you but just CICO advocates in general.
Yes, to lose weight it really is calories in vs. calories out. However, if you take that at face value, you're completely ignoring the effect that the quality of calories in has on the entire equation.
Yes you can lose weight eating twinkies and doritos if you stay under whatever your body's maintenance point is. That's obvious. But those aren't satiating foods and I'd be willing to bet that this professor's ghrelin levels are through the roof. That's why low fat, and specifically low calorie low fat diets are so damn difficult to adhere to long term as willpower will only get you so far fighting against your own biology. He was probably starving, cold, and miserable at the end of his experiment.
