Right now srs, before the next lockdown hits
If you plan to lift, it’s essential in these times to have a home gym. Even if it wasn’t for covid, I strongly recommend anyone who cares about lifting to atleast get a rack, bench, olympic bar+plates and some adjustable DBs (or a rack of DBs if you can afford it)
I haven’t lifted in a public gym since 2018 and that’s only because I was on holiday*Deadlifts pants after taking a chit crew*

Some people prefer home gyms, others prefer a commercial gym. I've seen people go to the expense of buying gym equipment for a home gym, only to sell it all afterwards when they feel it's ok to go back to a gym, which to me seems like a waste of money.
I built my own home gym (I posted pics here previously), and I'm not looking back. I will not go back to a gym ever, unless I am away from home. To me, (a good) home gyms are superior in just about every way to a commercial gym.

Don't spend serious money before deciding which options work for you.
You will get an incline bench and pull down machine. The latter will do back and triceps and should have rowing cable at base for home use. Will you spend extra for pin loaded stack or go for less convenient plate loaded? The latter puts your plates to use which you will already have.
Olympic bar or standard.
Bumper plates or solid.
Full rack or half, or stands (poverty).
Fixed dumbells or screw collar, or both.
You can get away with standard plates throughout.
Factors are how heavy do you lift, do you want to drop hard on the floor, how much are you willing to spend, how important is convenience and comfort to you, space. EtcNocrew crew

Figure out if working out at home works for you first. For me personally it just doesn't feel the same. I somehow can't bring the same motivation at home as in the gym when I'm surrounded by other people working out. So before spending thousands of dollars on a home gym buy some basic stuff and see how that goes.

Unless you have $$$ and a lot of floor space for a home gym, I would always prefer to go to a kitted out commercial gym.
When I HAD to train at home, I was lucky enough to already have SOME gear, but it was just a DB bench and squat stands with around 180kg of freeweights and barbell, DB. It did not compare to training in a proper gym.
If you do have the means to build a proper home gym (proper flooring, squat rack, olympic barbell, loads of 20kg plates, DB rack, dip and pull up bars etc.) then I would take that option."Honor is something that all men are born with. It cannot be taken from you nor can it be granted. It must only not be lost."

Yep, this is the time to at least buy basic equipment in case of more lockdowns.
Here's what I have in my home gym and I was able to put this together for around $1,500. Most of these are from ebay
-CAP power rack
-Olympic Barbell
-ATIVAFIT Adjustable Dumbbell - up to 70lbs
-PASYOU adjustable bench
-Rogue bumper plates

I bought a Tonal during covid and I absolutely love it. Basically just a compact adjustable dual cable machine, but you can absolutely get in all your regular workouts. Well worth the price IMO, great space saver and much easier than putting together a whole home gym.

Never a bad idea to have some stuff at home to get a decent workout in case they shut gyms down again. If I had the space and money for a real home gym I'd never go to the real gym again. Saving the drive time and hassle of waiting for equipment is priceless.

Do you have the "gym" set up in a bedroom or in the living room or how?
I have a 1 bedroom apartment (not sure about us terms, but here its called 2 rom apartment where the living room and bedroom are separated, and a 3 rom is 2 bedrooms)
I can't fit a gym in my bedroom due to my big bed. And having it in the living room would look awful... But if 2 weeks keep acting like just 2 more weeks, I might have to redecorate
