to me anything between 10 to 20 hours is the ideal length
it seems nowaday there is a lot of emphasis on map size and playtime
it got to a point where if you can finish a game in under 100 hours it's considered "short"
don't get me wrong, I loved Witcher 3 and also finished Breath of the Wild but these are games I won't be revisiting any time soon
while some shorter games I will play over and over from start to finish

I would say RPGS should be expansive and the completion time should not really be an issue. Whilst you CAN complete Skyrim in a few hours, a huge proportion of players will have sunk 50+ hours into it. RPGS can really only be too short, not too long. As long as the gameplay is interesting and varied, I'm all good.
Regarding non RPG or open world games (like the later Arkham games), I would agree that 10-20 hours is a good window.
There are always the arcade games if you want a short blast (under 1 hour or so)"Honor is something that all men are born with. It cannot be taken from you nor can it be granted. It must only not be lost."

If I'm playing a single player game, 20-30 hours is great. I can't understand the appeal of mindless side quests that add 70+ hours to a game. There are VERY few games that warrant the content that is just shoe-horned in in the form of fetch quests and empty exploration. I have several games that I've put 40+ hours into and not finished because the game got stagnant and stale, I can only run to X location on the map, kill Y amount of mindless enemy #5, talk to Z NPC and then run back to point A to turn in the quest before it loses its steam.
Most of those quests end in "I'm sorry your [husband/mother/wife/brother] are dead, here's his 1 of a kind heirloom [ring/necklace/bag of bones]". And you get a terrible ring that you out leveled 3 hours ago running a different fetch quest.***Mariah Carey is my 10/10 Crew***

Depends on the type of game. i normally go for the indie games like Hades because of the amount of content and replayability in those kind of games, i can easily put 150+ hours if not more if i really like the game.
If we're talking about triple A titles, then no way would i pay £50 for anything less than 30 hours of gameplay. The more i learn about people, the more i like my dog.

The problem with long ass RPGS is the story is absolute drivel when it crosses that 20 hour time frame. Books don't take that long to read. Game stories need to take a page from authors. Movies tell stories in 2-3 hours at most. It becomes nothing but grinding and silly challenges that don't match up with RPG gameplay i.e. Emerald and Ruby boss in FF7 -- have nothing to do with the game.

if I'm enjoying a game, the number of hours is no consequence. however the problem with longer games is that often there is a whole bunch of filler added in that doesn't really add to the game, or they just make the game unnecessarily longer.
for me, the main story maybe around 30-50 hours. side quests/completion I don't really have an answer for.positivity brah crew

Honestly it just depends how good it is. Some of the best games can run over 50 hours without it feeling too long and leave you still wanting more. But I think your average good game should stay under 30, otherwise it starts to fell too long. Too many games are bloated with garbage these days just to make them longer and it makes the experience worse.
