About a week ago, I went to the local scoop shop when out grocery shopping and tried a couple of the LA flavors. Did the single scoop but split it between two flavors. The greenish one is avocado toast. It was kinda weird. Sweet but only slightly as think the avocado had an influence on that element. Didn't quite taste like avocado but almost and was sort of an eggy type of base that was more noticeable than others. Did have pieces of toast that weren't crunchy but also not soggy. Had a nice solidness to it and a savory quality. Not sure how I feel overall on that one still. Not sure I'd order it again. The other half was the chocolate almond croissant crunch, which seemed safer. The mix-ins were strong in that one even for the small amount. Croissant pieces were more cake like than croissant though. The chocolate part was prevalent and strong with a bitter quality like the bittersweet cocoa powder used for baking. Not much of a crunch but can't expect everything in the little half scoops. Overall, it was okay and could appreciate the flavors but nothing really wow-able. Didn't get any pints this month.

Stopped by Caffe Panna during the all day food crawl.
Put away the Sundae of the day and the Affogato of the day.
Full disclosure: the ice cream sundae flavors were fruit heavy and I'm not about that life; however, the affogato had choco, pb, cookies etc so it was a decent gauge.
It is a quality product...the people working there are 10/10 - genuinely likeable and friendly...
However, for now, there is too much hype (as expected when there is a charming owner who is well connected to influencers). It's nice - tasty even - and clearly a contribution to the NYC ice cream scene, but the craveability is nowhere near an It Came From Gowanus based sundae.
Will revisit down the road.

They always either refund or re-ship them tho. I've since lowered my expectations on them 'getting it right' the first time, so i won't be disappointed... might just take longer to get the proper items... but I hope not.
And with this line-up, i'll risk it.
I've never been out money as a result or anything.Last edited by AdamWW; 09-30-2019 at 02:16 PM.

Someone has to keep the hypebeast good-bro machine in check.
I certainly don't have nearly the influence but in as much as those who trust me care to read...they'll be better off for it.
To be clear though, this is not "lazy vs. Grace, Season 2": Hallie's product is very much consistently (consumed a bunch of flavors/toppings and sampled all others avail) top tier - exhibiting clear mastery of the craft.
Nevertheless, at the moment, the distance to GOAT-dom is sizable.

I thought most of your Lil G criticism was fair. She had some bangers and some real head scratchers.
Honestly we are all better off when people are honest about mail orders. Going into a supermarket is fairly low risk. We should all call it straight on something that’s $12 a pint or more just out of sheer ice cream decency.

Black Cat Licorice & Lavender
Rounding the corner with a ghastly squeal, a jet-black figure pounces on your shadow. In this ominous, unexpected flavor, we’ve conjured up superstition with a silky, pitch-dark anise and fennel caramel swirled with luminous salted lavender ice cream. We wouldn’t turn our backs if we were you.

Ample Hills - Nectar of the Queens
It's a honey cinnamon ice cream with baklava and galaktoboureko (whatever that is)
Base here is very very sweet, largely honey and just a slight cinnamon is coming through. Luckily I have a big sweet tooth so this doesn't bother me at all, but I could see some people perhaps with lesser affinities for honey or sweet bases not enjoying it as much.
As for the mix-ins, they're spread very thoroughly in my pint thus far as opposed to being gigantic chunks. Chewy but also delicate, and again nice and sweet like the base, but with that buttery flavor you get from greek/middle eastern pastries.
For me this is very tasty... love the chewy/sweet/buttery textures in the mix-ins, even if the entire experience is kind of single-note. Would have liked bigger pieces/chunks, but who knows what the second half will bring.
8/10

Just put in an order for the Taste of NY 4-Pack.
I wanted to see S&S's flavors beforehand, but the only one that interests me is the great candycopia. I may put in an order for some in the middle of the month. You can't help the hopeless.

If you like Dark Chocolate... you'll love Gowanus. Also the orange-scented brownies are really unique... super, super dense/chewy.
If I was more of a chocolate-lover, it'd be higher... but it's very very good. Especially the base.
I'll probably pick up Candycopia and the vegan pumpkin/mummy Salt & Straw at some point... but, no order."When I die, I hope it's early in the morning so I don't have to go to work that day for no reason"

It's probably the darkest chocolate base i've tried before, and it has a really well balanced amount of salt too. Honestly, I can't have much in one sitting personally because my chocolate cravings only last so long... but yeah it's a very unique flavor IMO. I have a personal preference for CCPCC over it I would say, but only because I tend to lean on the sweeter side:
Gowanus
Side note: Went and grabbed Candycopia and the Mummy Pumpkin flavor from Salt & Straw today. Should be fun pints.Last edited by AdamWW; 10-04-2019 at 02:31 PM.

CCPCC vs. Gowanus is like sipping on Swiss Miss mixed with hot water vs. a 70% dark Swiss chocolate bar melted into heavy cream.
There's room for both in this world, but I'll rock my camp to until the end of time.
That being said...I've never had a non hand-packed version, so if it sucks...I'll let you know as always.

Salt & Straw - Mummy’s Pumpkin Spiced Potion (Vegan)
Well, from the site description, I gather it includes:
rooibos
pumpkin
caramel
blackberry shoot
vanilla
And, it's apparently supposed to satisfy cravings for pumpkin spice latte (according to the site).
Honestly, to me, this tastes like vanilla cake frosting (the base), with a sweet caramel swirl that actually almost has an apple-like note to it... could just be sweet pumpkin tho, im not sure.
Either way... pumpkin spice latte? Uh, not in my book.
It's tasty... it's a sweet base (vanilla frosting like I said) with swirls of caramel and an interesting undertone of either sweetened pumpkin or apple.
Wasn't what I was expecting, but it's not bad either.
6.5/10
