I am by no means a good snowboarder, I barely get down the mountain. But i think that having a willingness to commit actually helps. It might hurt, but I know in the beginning I was really scared to commit to switching edges from heel to toe and that hindered my skill building. I felt like I was going too slow.

Thats the plan. I think the slopes are only open wed-sun and im getting a season pass so im going to try and go as much as i can. I think the crew up here is also planning a trip to whitefish, and I might hit up a few other slopes as well. My first day i hit a rail and a jump, and hopefully by the end of this season i will be able to hit some front side 3's
edit: ayyy just noticed the username. Was thinking about getting a never summer board, but ended up getting the salomon villain instead. No signature

Woke up to this. This is my local mountain and I'm going Saturday. So happy I stopped being stubborn and stupid and bought a helmet

Those are two completely different boards. I'd prefer the camber of the salomon for sure. Never Summers only make rocker hybrids. The camber is much better for jumps and carving. The only place it will suffer is in deep powder. The only time I'll pull my never summer back out is when there's over a foot of fresh powder over night

Yeah. Sent a taipan over a left hip and a small jump today (maybe got like 4-6ft of air), did a few short butters, backside 270 on a bank, and did a little switch riding, and hit my first black diamond, but it didnt really look too bad, but i still got fked on the moguls a good number of times and had to brake through it a lot.

lol thats me, and you are forgetting that I have been riding freestyle bmx for probably 12 years. I have already been doing 540's, handrails, backflips, switch riding, and jumps/drops just on a bmx bike. Its totally different, but a lot of the fundamentals do somewhat carry like absorbing shock, pre loading a spin, keeping weight centered, hopping, etc etc

Its cool mane. Its a blast so far. The boots are pretty uncomfortable, and its like 20 degrees up here, but I still love it. Way different than riding bikes in 105 degree weather, but its a nice change of pace. I definitely have a lot more respect for snowboarding now though. I always thought everyone could just bust a 720 easily and if they fell, a nice pile of snow would catch them lol. Hopefully I will have many more seasons after this

Boots are the most important part. Next time you go buy some make sure you try on like 30 pairs. You'll know which ones are right as soon as you step in. I've been wearing adidas boots lately and really like them. Seriously check out those snowboard addiction videos on YouTube. They'll take you to the next level.

I got a pair of salomon dialogues, and they feel pretty good except they feel pretty tight across the shins, and i cant find a balance between loosening them for comfort and tightening them for performance. I will have to check out that snowboard addiction channel as well, my friend told me today to also check out snowboardprocamps videos.

So-cal season so far is pretty meh. Mammoth has been great but bear mountain/snow summit only have half of the mountain open. snow summit got like...less than a foot of natural snow this year
bought a Bataleon evil twin this season and it's such a completely different ride
- 10/10 for buttering around. main purpose i got it. it's impossible to catch an edge on it
- 0/10 on anything resembling ice. the pro for buttering is a major con here: it's impossible to get an edge on it. shoots out from under me 90% of the time if i am anything other than flat on ice.
- 8/10 in powder. really floaty
- 6/10 on bigger jumps. raised up edges means less surface area to land on. it's rated a 5 but i'd give it more like an 8 compared to the 5 of a burton custom flying v.
- 9/10 construction. been hammering it pretty hard on rails this season and no damage
wish it was a bit softer but it's definitely going to be a board i use consistently from here on out.
current fav boards
park/fun: Bataleonevil twin
all mountain: burton custom flying v
powder: Bataleonevil twin surprisingly. I like it more than any pow board i demoed
old boards:
forum scallywag - great learning board
dinosaurs will die larson - taught me to never buy a board that isn't from a top5 company. build quality is 0/10 and it was toast after a single season of riding groomers.
next board will probably be something with really solid edge hold for ice days to pair with the evil twin. never gave lib tech a change but magna traction looks niceMS, Computer Science
