Theoretically, ALCAR supplementation for fat burning should work well, but studies on ALCAR in isolation do not show very good results. Fat loss is typically attributed to the increased activity done by people, from the increased energy they have from ALCAR supplementation.

Yes l-carnitine is useless for burning fat. Other forms such as Acetyl L-Carnitine and L-Carnitine L-Tartrate have benefits such as mental focus and reduced muscle damage but not weight reduction.

If you're in the US, an e/c stack is easy to get and one of the only clinically proven ways to burn fat.

Basically L carnitine will help only if your deficit in it, taking it in supplement form, is like insurance. If you are deficit in it, it can make fatloss more difficult so for that reason I generally use it when I'm pre-contest or in aggressive losing bodyfat mode

I do think most forms are adequate, like regular l carnitine, alcar, plcar, and l carnitine tartrate as ive used all of these over the past twelve years . The studies on l carnitine tartrate look most promising for fatloss and even something about androgen receptors so I ve been sticking with lclt for the past five years or longer

The problem with L-carnitine supplementation is that you need a fair amount of insulin in your bloodstream to actually trigger the active transporters to trans-locate to the cell membrane surface allowing the l-carnitine to enter the cell.

I recommend 3-5 grams leucine + 30-50 grams glucose + 3-5 grams of l-carnatine-l-tartarate for maximum intracellular carnitine levels (SRS)

have this with your post workout shake and include creatine and beta alanine, as well.

IN the morning do fasted cardio so the increased l-carnitine levels get to work , since it technically only helps utilizing fatty acids as energy as part of beta oxidation IIRC

I think either way is fine, in fact I think smaller dosing a few times a day is best, like a gram or two here, and a gram or two there. With some glucose postworkout makes great sense., as this is a great time to get in a lot of nutrients , vitamins, beta alanine, creatine, while insulin response is higher

Can the transporters be activated via exercise without the need for insulin? I know exercise activates GLUT4, but I don't know if that is related to allow carnitine to enter the cell.

Tbh, the only reason companies sell it is because people buy it. Just like CLA, Raspberry Ketones, Garcinia Cambogia, yada, yada, yada.
