Black is a little more versatile IMO. Looks better with the red second hand. If you're going with a non-ceramic SMP, definitely blue wave dial. Though I'd definitely suggest looking at one in person - the ones I saw had a funny plastic look to me, though as always your mileage may vary.

The certina is okay, but I'd go for a seiko SARB017 or an archimede outdoor. You can get the outdoor with hardened steel for like $750. Supposedly great quality. Both are in your price range. Or get an aqua terra quartz for 1750. I wish they still made the seamasters in quartz.
Automatics are probably my least favorite movements tbh. Quartz for divers is great, set and forget. And I like hand crankers for most everything else. When you haven't worn it in days you wind it up and know how much power reserve you have. Hard to judge with an automatic where you stand in that regard.

Purchased with the Assurant warranty for a total of $3300. Pretty good deal. It's a 42mm Planet Ocean. I only have a 6.5" wrist so I'll stay away from the 43.5 or 45 GMT's. Good deal on this too for sure.

yep, and further 20% off if shipping outside uk/europe (no VAT). HOF sale, I picked up a dress watch. In a way sometimes I think they do their brand damage with so many sales (10-30)%, but these watches were considered crazy good value at their RRP, so with this sale I think its a great buy (I got a 5 day, in house chronometer for under 800 USD).

Not a compromise watch for me . This one is the militare with vintage style lume. Milsubs go for 100K and I'm not going to own one in my life time. I think it's all relative. After owning this, I'm pretty content with it and don't feel the need to buy a Sub.
They produce some other nice watches too! Check out the 60 ATMOS

100%. I don't agree with the black one with white indices, but with the vintage lume, sword hands, and oversized crown, I think it makes it okay. Definitely good quality with a top heavy case. I used to be put off by the branding, etc, but after handling with this I can safely say it's a good watch.

thoughts on buying older watches? Like is it a bad move to buy a Grand Seiko from the '70s?
also is Steinhart full potato? They look so nice for what they cost.Last edited by ClaudeGiroux; 02-01-2017 at 04:08 PM.

Only do it if you know what you're doing. It's great having a watch that not many people have these days and also having that piece of history on your wrist makes it that much special. Only drawback is the costs of maintenance/servicing + finding someone who can do it. Recently sold my Vintage Tudor two tone linen dial.
I've heard good things about Steinhart despite the homage aspect of it.

Buying vintage is the way to go bruhhhh. Vintage GS can be had for peanuts, though for the money I think Omega, JLC and entry level Rolex are much better investments.
As for Steinhart: Are you aware watches aren't thát expensive to make? Steinhart is pretty solid for the money quality-value wise. They use ETA/Sellita movements, which are pretty decent. Better value for the money than Tissot and many other sub $1k brands I'd say. The reason Steinhart is so cheap is because they don't have to pay any designers... after all, they only do rip-offs of Rolexes anyway ;D
Rolexes are only $600-1000 to make. I assume Steinhart is around $200-400 to make.Last edited by Kabananga; 02-01-2017 at 04:55 PM.
