So allowing people or entities to keep a little more of their earned money is now the same as the gov't granting extra money to it? Please explain.

Lol I love the negativity from the press and libs. They so badly want to hate this.

Long term the economy needs to see structural change to see manufacturing come back. A combination of lower taxes and tariffs will do the trick

No... Link to support your claim of "Obama helps to negotiate saving the US auto industry and millions of jobs is bad."
    - How/when did Obama help to negotiate saving the US auto industry?
    - How did that save millions of jobs? (How does an entire industry just cease to exist, without anyone else picking up the required capacity?)
    - Who said saving jobs would be bad?

And if saving American jobs(D) is good, then why the uproar over saving American jobs(R)...?

Srs? People were bashing Obama non stop over "their" tax dollars used on the bailouts. This isn't news. I'm just pointing out that all those jobs saved were taxpayer jobs.

I am in engineering and work for a small (<600 total employess) manufacturer in WNY. We actually hurt for unskilled and consistent labor yet pay very well and offer great benefits (Great health ins, 401k, paid vacation, profit sharing) as well as an 18$/hour STARTING wage. The issue is that folks my age (27) and younger do not want to actually work these jobs, they believe they are entitled to easier jobs and scoff at actually working.

The problem isn't lack of well paying jobs, the problem is the lack of good, consistent labor to work them. If I was in charge of hiring here, I would hire a boomer or gen x'er over a millennial any day for a factory job.

We are in the same boat up here. We have consistent openings for long term employment in the ($20-$25 range to start) with full benefits. With average overtime and a couple years experience these guys are making $70k+ which is a comfortable living in most of Canada.

The problem is we expect people to show up and work for 8-10 hrs, and expect people to start in lower positions so they can effectively learn the business. We have projects we have turned down because we aren't able to staff them.

Those are few and far between. 99.9% of manufacturing jobs are low skill and low wage work. (And I mean LOW)

I understand that. There is always going to be a low skill/educated population of the country. Low wage labor is needed. Would you rather these people live off of 100% govt assistance or contribute?

Of course I definitely believe that we should adjust the wages to cost of living increases seeing that the strength of the dollar has significantly decreased since manufacturings heyday.

The difference between then and now is that the dollar was strong enough that even these low wage workers making minimum wage in the 60s was equivalent to $12 an hour. House on average were also roughly $80,000 in todays money and cars were $10k.

Your dollar went a lot further.

Loans that were paid back. I will concede that bond holders got screwed in the deal. That was supposed to be an almost sacred type of investment.

Low wage and low skill positions kill, and I mean KILL our nation's economy. These positions do just that.

I would much, and I mean MUCH rather them "contribute" (which they really don't because low skill, low wage positions kill, and I mean KILL our nation's economy) than live off government assistance.
