Okay... After a little research, I've put together a list of current/past equipment crew members.
In the course of doing my research, I found that more than a few members aren't displaying their number in their sig!!! (Okay, maybe I'm making that more dramatic than it warrants.)

Here's what Keetman said about it one time:
"I'd personally rather have a smaller number of people with a number that regularly post and contribute, than to just randomly give them out so they basically mean nothing."
(If you want more context, click on the link.)
Anyway, I think this makes sense; I don't plan to start randomly handing numbers out.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35

It's all fun and games until Animal Control shows up.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

I think the crew started in '08 or '09 and originally had about 12 members; maybe a few more.
45 new members or less in 8 years is fairly selective.
I think that we kept it that way to give it some "value"...but we wanted anyone to post. If you posted a lot, added something to the group, and were still here after some time you had a shot.
Obviously many members, including myself, have drifted....heck.... 3 members on the list never posted after they were on the list....2 of those may not even know they're on it or that it exists. 1 of the founders left shortly after creating it and the other hasn't posted in a couple of years.
We never take away numbers. The 2 that are open were abandoned by the recipient. No one has behaved so badly we had to ask them to drop the number. I do think at least 1 member is permabanned...but I'm not positive.
Good luck to all you wannabes....▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

So I'm looking at buying a small, simple pocket knife....nothing fancy, just something with a single folding blade. The only other features I'm interested in are thumb studs on both sides or something else that would allow me to open it with one hand. I'm really thinking whatever I can pick up at Walmart, Target, etc. I'm used to thinking of Buck as the only decent brand out there, I'm wondering if that is still the case. I know SOG, Gerber, Spyderco, and one or two others are pretty popular as well.
Anyone have a recommendation, or is Buck still the way to go?[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #29 []---[]

i have this knife (clickable):
that i bought for about $80 15 years ago or more when i was in boy scouts. it's served me well. can open and close with 1 hand, has an assisted opening mechanism which is nice so you know it's locked in place. i don't use it much anymore, but i used to carry it with me everywhere. it's still my utility knife of choice.
this is a right hand only knife though, which might be a problem if you'll be operating it with your left hand.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

honestly i think with a knife you might take some time and visit a knife/gun store that carries a variety of them so you can test them out. and really, i think if you're getting a good brand, most of the knives will age well (assuming you don't abuse them too badly).
imo this is a time when it's good to limit your choices, not find more alternatives.
EDIT: that woot deal looks good, keep in mind it looks like you'll still need to use 2 hands to close that knife, if you care.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

Figure out what you need/want and go from there. Blade size, overall length, pocket clip, liner lock, lockback, price range, etc.
Kershaw makes some great stuff. Liner locks are all the rage these days but I actually prefer a good ol' lockback. I carry a small Spyderco (lockback) everyday and it is very well made.. though some of them can get pricey. Gerber is a bit cheaper, but still makes a pretty solid knife. I have a large assisted open SOG too. I keep that beast by my bed for self-defense. Can't really go wrong with any popular brand these days.. Nothing wrong with Buck.Equipment Crew #68, Ivanko Crew #47, Rogue Barbell Club #7, Mech6 Crew #30

I love my Kershaw Cryo, It has the thumb studs but it also has a flipper with a spring assist opening so I never use the studs. The old Bucks were lockbacks so you needed two hands to close them but this is a framelock so with a little practice it can easily be closed with one hand. It also has a pocket clip that can be moved for tip up carry or tip down for either right or left handed users. The price is right too.

I am needing an emergency stabbing knife. I might need a hilt so my hand doesn't slip when bloody and maybe some flutes in the blade for bleed-out. You know, for recreational hunting and home protection (I'm Canadian)
But seriously, I don't need to cut things often. Usually packing tape, but I find a key also works in a pinch. I am interested in the seat belt cutter and glass breaker should I need them in a car accident scenario. It has occurred to me as Wildtim eluded to, that I could probably use a screwdriver more often. I'm not sure I could stand the bulk of a Leatherman like tool, but I have been known to carry a pair of 5WR Visegrips which is super handy. Anybody have a good pocket screwdriver recommendation that includes Robertson square-drive and T-10 and T-15 Torx bits?Clive, you're a good guy. - AttyGuy

I have never liked Buck knives and I don't believe they ever were or will be "the way to go".
My collection includes Cold Steel, Spyderco, Byrd, Ka Bar, CRKT, and SOG.
Any of those brands will have something that suits your needs.
Be sure to check out Spyderco's H1 steel. It's a novel way to make tough stainless.

Never watched the show and definitely don't condone the owner's criminal activities, but their signature knives are actually pretty damn nice and a hell of a bargain at the ~$12 shipped that Amazon was charging...
http://www.amazon.com/Folding-Utilit.../dp/B00CC5AMJK
I bought three of them and some of the guys at work bought them as well. I don't know if they'll get any back in stock, but it's worth keeping an eye on. Iirc, they were built by Ontario Knife Co.
My daily carry knife is a Benchmade Stryker 910 that I've had for over 15 years now. Damn nice knife if you can find one.Last edited by Stasher1; 04-10-2016 at 07:22 AM.

Oh, I forgot about these. Some day I will have a full set, they are seriously bad@ss! My neighbor had the Apokatana and the Deuce, we spiked watermelons in the backyard one day and went to town. Neighbors probably thought we were insane, but they cut through everything effortlessly. My first purchase would be the Vakra, I grew up watching the movie Cyborg (Van Damme) and have always wanted one of those knives. CW, sounds like you could use the Mauler.....

I love my Kershaw Leek. It has a quick assisted open, thumb studs on both sides, and is just the right size/weight for an EDC for me. Not too expensive and its a Kershaw. Regularly on sale I think.
