Why do fat people lose weight faster?

My brother has gone from 213 (21% bf) down to 199 in the space of 6 fukkin weeks. He had a good amount of muscle to begin with, and, as far as I can tell he has literally lost none of it in this 6 week period.

can someone explain to me why a 20% guy is capable of losing fat so fast without losing muscle mass?
pretty sure with how lean I am, if I tried a similar kind of cutting approach to my bro I would lose all my gains.

no idea. but I have been losing a good amount a weight now. When I weighed 200lbs it seemed to take for ever to lose a few pounds, but right now it seems easy.

Isn't it because of the high caloric intake consumed that lead them get that heavy isn't being consumed consistently anymore?

When a really fat person starts being conscious of the calories they are consuming, they usually consume WAY less making the fat literally melt off.

Because they have a higher resting metabolic rate for one, and any exercise a big guy does requires much more energy(calories) than a smaller person.

i could easily lose weight faster if i wanted to.... the point is, I know I would lose muscle mass if I did, my point is that on a fatty (20%) does not appear to be an issue...

Lyle Mcdonald explained it in one of his books pretty well, it's to do with the passive insulin resistant nature of severely overweight people, meaning the fat cells become resistant to accepting more lipids into fat-storage, so they end up in the bloodstream waiting to be burnt.

Add training into that, reversing the insulin resistance in the muscle tissue - and you end up with the situation where fat cells won't readily store as much energy, and muscle will readily suck it up.

Add into that caloric restriction, and boom - lose fat faster, and don't lose (usually gain) muscle.

a 250lb+ person's maintenance calories is high. all they have to do is eat about 3 cheeseburgers a day now and will still lose weight if you stay under that 4k calorie mark. when you are lightweight, your maintenance is closer to 1800-2500 calories.

When I dropped from 370 to where I am now I added to my bench the whole way. Cutting without losing strength and fat guy calves are legit benefits to being fat.

That being said, I would just about kill to have not ****ed up with my weight in the past. It might be easy to lose weight when you are really heavy but the road is much MUCH longer.

I still have ~70 lbs to go, its going to take more than a year if I want to maintain my current strength.
Eat in a deficit to lose weight.
Hit your protein and fat minimums to stay healthy and keep your gainz.
Lift heavy and do HIIT to look and feel awesome.

that's why it's so absurd that every fat person claims to have a slow metabolism

not only is it not slow, but it's way higher than a lean person
