Couple comments
1. It's weird that they have ''extra'' events at the Arnold that aren't in the strongman contest. JF Caron set some sort of tire flip record at the Arnold this year, Shaw lifted the 555lb atlas stone, and they did the 56lb weight for height. All three events should have just been in the contest to make it more well rounded event. Also, it should be noted that the stone and tire are fitted better for the stage setting that the Arnold is; the atlas stone event is basically stationary, and the tire flip you can just walk around to the other side.
They have had trouble in past years doing throwing events at the Arnold, with not enough height to really go all the way with the event (the medicine ball throw), but they seem to have solved that issue the last couple of years, the 56lb (or heavier) for height should be in the contest proper, as it good test of strength.
If the exhibition events were in the contest, it would have been a more well rounded event, and possibly Shaw would have beat Savickas on points then. It should also be noted, that the Arnold REALLY needs to have a squat type event to really round out the show, and be a perfect test of strength.
2. Some of the events in the contest are horrible for competition. Namely the yoke walk and the frame carry. Both are impressive due to the weight involved, but due to the limited stage area, the distances for the carries are a joke. It also shows in the results, namely the frame carry over the years, with the results only being separated by only 1 or 2 seconds and drastically changing the placings due to maybe one slow step. I want to see people winning events because they are stronger, not because they didn't make any mistakes.
Carrying events should be standardized to 20 meters, so to allow for a bigger separation in times between competitors, allow for an athlete to fix a mistake, and just get a better conclusive results as to who is better at the event.
Also, for any one who has watched either of those events at the Arnold, it always feels like the event is over as soon as it started, being as the distance is only like 15 feet, it makes for a poor watching experience despite the massive weight.
Also, it can't be stated enough that both of these events are determined more by perfect runs, rather than strength, because it is too short of a distance to correct a mistake.
3. I agree that the injury is BS. As superman as Brian Shaw really is, having a bad hamstring is gonna stop you from lifting a world record in the atlas stone. If we want to belief that his hamstring was injured, it must have been so minor that it had no impact on Shaws performance.Last edited by Sportacus88; 03-12-2016 at 04:05 AM.

A lot of people, me included, are of the opinion that a world class strongman event should only have one powerlifting type lower body event, and that has historically always been the deadlift at the Arnold's. With them starting to make changes though they might rotate between a deadlift and a squat, but in the end the deadlift is just much more "cool".
The Arnold has always been about everything being super heavy, and short distances with immense weights fit right into that, but I agree, I'd like to see longer distances or just different events because those always feel a bit off.
