That is cool as hell. I see you're using Java, and I could use some practice since my CS program uses Java(I'm a Python guy myself), so let me know if you're looking for contributors. I have some free time during the week I could help out.

I made an android app (link is in my sig) for weightlifting. How can I get users? I tried posting it in weightlifting sub reddits and the posts keep getting deleted
Android app to track lifting progress. (includes unique features such as weekly volume tracking, 1-RM calculator, RPE, WILKS calculator, find PR for a specific exercise+reps)

those links are for amazon's cloud computing. i'm talking about the marketplace web service, which is probably the same platform.
i guess a better question is what specific skills should i learn in order to develop productivity software such as inventory and pricing management, automated email responder, product detail tracking, etc.?
or maybe even better still, if i want to transfer my basic knowledge of java from writing command line programs to full applications, where could i learn that?I lift therefore I am.

Just lol @ these useless classes
Brb gotta prove that something is correct, but isn't it already correct?
Let x be a positive number integer where aspodsiaspods i oaoip dai spd oai spod d spoi aps[posd aodi daosdn aondoaidjasklasdjalksdj
Brb using all these elven symbols just to sound smart
Brb describing everything in words but provide no visual pictures and expects u to understand it

IN on this thread.
I start my degree next fall semester (sept 2016). Went from mech. eng to CS.
Currently learning Java + android app dev via android studio (almost at an intermediate level). Then moving on to C# > C++ > C > iOS app dev > Swift then w.e other language I can get my hands on. Messed around with Python a little while ago. Going to get back on that soon.
I find learning to be very tedious.... but rewarding when you get that "ah ha!" moment. That and the salaries for jobs keeps me super motivated. Das it mane.( ͡ಠ ͜ʖ ͡ಠ) Who you callin' Pinhead? ( ͡ ͜ʖ ͡)

dfw suck at programming. good at math and computation though. got a BS in CS from fordham, couldnt get a damn job in CS or even IT. in real estate right now.
going back to fordham for a MS in cyber security (one year program). studying for net+ and sec+ certs too. hope something good comes outta this. im really interested in cyber security. hoping to land an entry level IT desktop support job while mastering so i have some relevant experience once im done with my MS.
edit: im good with conceptually understanding data structures though. also lots of algorithms and stuff, and making them more efficient.Last edited by Dreyth; 10-23-2015 at 11:32 AM.

That learning path is kinda random IMO, dedicate some time to learning data structures as that will come into play more so than proficiency in a certain language. Also having the mindset of becoming "language agnostic" is more important than learning the individual tips and tricks you learn with each language.

urine idiot
brb your mind's not capable of sufficiently abstract thinking to understand proofs
brb no idea what the halting problem is
brb would never even think of using an approximation algorithm due to a lack of understanding of theory
brb will never actually build anything that's not just smashing APIs together
brb without finite automata, electronic devices and compilers would not exist
brb
But actually, good proofs often use pictures for clarity.

He has a point though. Most CS guys want to go into developing. And for every developer that actually uses the math you learn in those courses, there are 70 who never need it. The majority are just jobs that require very little math beyond basic stuff.
If you're developing a 3D engine, or building a new video codec, or writing stuff where every milisecond counts, then yes it's very useful. But most developers don't do that. They end up writing websites, mobile apps and enterprise CRUD software.
