wassup guys, I raced a few races as a Cat4 now and all that I have to say is that sandbaggers are annoying as chit.
seriously, if you have 40 races and enough upgrade points, upgrade already. No one is impressed with a winner of a cat4/5 race anywaysIM Tri Crew - Misc Photog Crew - ♞ Misc Dominant Crew ♞ - Bicycle Brah Crew - Misc Running Crew - Alpine Ski Crew

Agreed. I have only 11 races in and 3 as a cat4... I want more experience but I am only signing up for masters 3/4 races now. I hope for less crashing and dive bombing. I feel like a prick having to yell at people in turns but dammit, if you don't know what an apex is...

Finished my first ironman 70.3 in 5:10. Biking done in 2:40 with a crash and other technical obstacles. Overall happy, but would have been cool to finish sub 5 hours. Without crash, some smarter swimming and smarter transistions I would've done it. My starting goal was 5:40 though, so I am not dissappointed.

Just been out on my single speed (46x17 gearing). Ended up just riding new roads I'd never been on before.
- So I start off flat for a few miles, averaging 18/19mph (that's about perfect cadence with this gearing).
- Then I start to go downhill, a lot. I'm thinking shiit, to get home I'm going to have to climb back up one way or the other.
- Keep going, try to extend the route in a hope a longer route will keep the climbs steady and doable.
- I fuked up.
- Ended up going down hill more. So I started to loop back towards home.
- Came to a really steep section, strava says the average is 6.9%, and it went on for half a mile.
- Get to the top thinking I've tackled it and its got to be plain sailing from now.
- First turn. First sign I see.
"Welcome to Hillsdale"
- I shiit you not.
- The road was undulating up and down for at least 3 miles, and the climbs weren't pretty in the one gear.
- Ended up leveling out and being one of those bastard 0.3% climbs all the way back home
Best part was, when I looked at strava when I finished and I'd done just over 15 miles and my average pace was 17.3 mph. Which I'll definitely take considering I was struggling to keep up 14/15mph on the last few roads home.
That first bitch of a climb I was ranked in the top end for all time, 163rd out of 876 (60/300 for the year)
Horrible ride though, probably won't do it again without gears.Last edited by nattyuser; 06-23-2015 at 12:11 PM. Reason: I'd put my place for this year, not all time...

Yeah, well you have to be careful. You have to know the difference between challenging and too much too soon. You must lean to analyze the "feel" of your body after intense training, and how it reacts to the stress. If it takes me more than two days to recoup, then I likely did more harm than good. Yes it can be all of this and more. There's fundamentals, but you really just have to ride. With me it was just a matter of getting the seat position right. Nudging it forward just a few cm and the saddle is no longer an issue for me when riding.

is it safe to sit on one bicycle in a store of any brand, find out it's geometry, and then buy another bike with the same geometric and assume that you'll fit it well?
for example, I sat on a Cannondale in a store, thought it was good. Looked it up online and am thinking of blindly buying a Specialized with the same dimensions**Sets the thermostat in my room to 69 so they know crew**

So I'm getting my smaller CAADX 105 today in a 51cm.
It comes with 700x35 tires and for now I'm only riding on pavement, and it feels kind of slow.
Would I benefit from getting a 28mm tire with less tread?

Experienced my first flat tyre with no equipment on me today. So much for a leisurely cycle along the beach front :/

Absolutely. I've got a hybrid that never really leaves the tarmac, so to ts what I did right from the start. Now I enjoy enhanced peddling efficiency and speed. Still not as fast as a true road bike but its fast enough for me.
On another note, I went back to my hill of shame and tried my hand at climbing again. Needless to say, I ended up walking up again. That 20 degree grade was just too much for my cycle and me (I sit tall in the saddle) even in the bottom gear. Maybe a mountain bike would be preferable? Or perhaps i just need more hill climb training?🎥

Don't post in here often, but thought I'd mention I'm going to France with my bro to watch the tour this year.
Absolutely buzzin'!
Camping up near Alp d'Huez and watch stages 18 to 20, whilst cycling around and seeing the sights.
Gunna fit in Col de la Croix de Fer, Alpe d'Huez and the Toussuire. I think the Galibier is closed for repairs this year.
Look out for my bert flag with Misc. written on it.★★★ I was part of the Ultra 2013 Thread Crew ★★★

Its a shame Eriks banned, he was probably our best regular poster.
7000ft in 50 miles. I couldn't even imagine doing that.
I did 40 miles yesterday with 1,800ft and was goosed at the end. I was riding with someone who was probably riding 2-3mph more than what I'd call comfortable pace for myself, so by the time we did the first 20 miles to get to the hills I was pretty low on energy.
Whats the best training for long steep hills? I'd at least like to get to the point where I can just trundle up without feeling like I've done ten rounds with Mike Tyson.**Hates own username crew**
