Im a football fan, and im lucky to be alive to witness the GOAT (Lionel Messi) play week in and week out, but there are still a lot of people who have nostalgia googles and live and die by the idea that Messi isnt the GOAT and that there are players like Maradona, Pele and Zidane (lol) who are still higher on the GOAT level.
Im just wondering, if with Lebron, something similar is happening? That we are seeing the GOAT, but people with nostalgia googles still live and die by the argument that MJ and Kobe were better?
From a non-biased perspective, Lebron seems to have it absolutely everything. Dude's a beast, both technically and physically. Im a big fan of MJ but come on... there's gotta be at least a debate here.

NBA fans, explain this to me: Is Lebron an actual contender for the GOAT?
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

The level of play is much higher now.
I used to a firm believer that LBJ would never pass MJ in terms of career legacy, but Im a bit hesitant to say that after watching the first 3 games. We'll see where it goes from here and how LBJ adapts to his declining athleticism.★|★ Seahawks ★|★ Mariners ★|★

I fail to see where I'm deflecting. We're discussing "GOAT" player (assuming this is for a career) and you site the fact that Lebron is having arguably the GOAT Finals performance as the basis for why he's the GOAT for a career.
What he's doing is flat out amazing. I watched last night and could tell he's actually getting better as a player. However, he's still 2-3 in the finals. I still remember him quitting last year. I still remember him being flat out AWFUL in 2011.
If he pulls out a Championship in Cleveland this year and does it a few more times "could" there be an argument in 6-7 years? Of course.
But right now he's still got a ways to go to be in the coversation.
That's my .02 (which means jack chit obviously). I don't know the guy and frankly he seems like a decent dude. My issue with him has always been that he seemed mentally weak and would shrink or defer... this finals he's showing that perhaps that is no longer the case and it's really awesome to see.

unless he absolutely chokes the last part of his career, he will go down and the second best of all time
mj dominated every aspect of the nba, individual stats, rings, marketing, etc
if the cavs win this year, it will pretty much cancel out the 2011 choke, so he still needs another finals run to truly rival the GOAT MJI'll have the milk steak, boiled over hard, and your finest jelly beans…raw

My dad has played, coached, and watched basketball for a long time. His favorite player is Magic Johnson. What he says about who is the GOAT?
"There's no real answer."
He says LeBron is the most gifted player he's seen in his life, even though he doesn't like him at all.
Jordan is the easiest to claim as GOAT, but it's not like he went Gretzky Mode on his sport.
I'm a HUGE LeBron fan. I can't wait to tell my kids that the legend is true. But I don't spend time trying to weigh who is GOAT when it comes to NBA basketball, because it's not obvious. There are too many variables that compound based on the sport's historical environment.
There's no Freddie Mercury in NBA history. There's no Phil Spector either. No Beatles. Just accept it and enjoy the most beautiful sport (IMO and many others') as we get it.
