Hey everyone!
The weather is getting nicer and warmer and what better way to kick off the Spring with a blood drive. Below is some helpful info for you to read to guide you in donating blood (I copied and pasted from zizzfanatica's blood drive thread from 2013).
This thread has been approved by ForumSentinel and will be stickied.
Q: Why should I donate blood?
A: Safe blood saves lives and improves health. Blood transfusion is needed for:
-women with complications of pregnancy, such as ectopic pregnancies and hemorrhage before, during or after childbirth;
-children with severe anemia often resulting from malaria or malnutrition;
-people with severe trauma following accidents; and
-many surgical and cancer patients.
-It is also needed for regular transfusions for people with conditions such as thalassaemia and sickle cell disease and is used to make products such as clotting factors for -----people with hemophilia.
There is a constant need for regular blood supply because blood can be stored for only a limited time before use. Regular blood donations by a sufficient number of healthy people is needed to ensure that safe blood will be available whenever and wherever it is needed.
Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person — the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save a life, or even several if your blood is separated into its components — red cells, platelets and plasma — which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions.
Blood Donors Must:
Be healthy*
Be at least 17 years old in most states, or 16 years old with parental consent if allowed by state law – see more information for 16-year old donors
Weigh at least 110 lbs.
Additional weight requirements apply for donors 18 years old and younger and all high school donors.
Note: Healthy means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes, healthy also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control.
TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL DONATION
By following a few recommendations before, during and after your blood donation can help you make your donation experience as safe, successful and pleasant as possible.
Maintain a healthy iron level in your diet by eating iron rich foods, such as red meat, fish, poultry, beans, spinach, iron-fortified cereals and raisins.
Get a good night's sleep.
Drink an extra 16 oz. of water or nonalcoholic fluids before the donation.
Eat a healthy meal before your donation. Avoid fatty foods, such as hamburgers, fries or ice cream before donating. (Fatty foods can affect the tests we do on your blood. If there is too much fat in your blood, your donation cannot be tested for infectious diseases and the blood will not be used for transfusion.)
If you are a platelet donor, remember that your system must be free of aspirin for two days prior to donation.
Remember to bring your donor card, driver's license or two other forms of ID.
Donation Type Donation Frequency
Blood (whole blood) Every 56 days
Platelets Every 7 days, up to 24 times / year
Plasma Every 28 days, up to 13 times / year
Double Red Cells Every 112 days, up to 3 times / year
I will be repping everyone who donates (make sure to provide proof, read below) just be patient because I am also repping people in the St. Jude's donation thread, I'll try to mix up my reps everyday in that thread and this.
I'm sure as with the prior blood drive threads in the past there will be quite a bit of people who will not only donate blood but rep everyone who donates. I will update the rep pool below, just let me know to put your name in the pool. If you have any questions feel free to post here or PM me.
When donating just have a piece of paper with your username written down along with the title of the thread and the date, pretty much follow what I did in my pic below, donated today on my day off. This will be the only way you will get repped by following this procedure so please just follow this in order to get repped by people in the rep pool.
If for some reason you cannot donate blood due to medical reasons or you already donated blood prior to this drive, you can have a friend or relative donate on your behalf so long as you provide proof.
Also, in the past we had miscers who frauded donations, I remember one dirtbag who used a speaker wire taped to his arm and now he is miscing from that great big forum in the sky! So don't be that guy lol.
Now let's get those blood donations in!

In Australia the Red Cross Blood Service allows donations on the following schedule;
- Whole blood donors 18 years and over can give blood every 12 weeks.
- Whole blood donors under 18 can give blood every 12 months
- Plasma and platelet donors can donate as often as every 2-3 weeks.
I generally donate plasma every 2 weeks depending on my availability. Next one is on Friday. But I keep metrics of my donations (coming up on a year donating) coming up on 13Kg's of plasma donated..
1. 08 May 2014 - Brisbane City - Whole Blood 470ml - ?
2. 26 June 2014 - Brisbane City - Plasma 825g (13%)
3. 10 July 2014 - Brisbane City - Plasma 825g (13%)

15. 06 March 2015 - Strathpine - Plasma 901g (18%)
16. 20 March 2015 - Strathpine - Plasma 901g (18%)
17. 09 April 2015 - Canberra - tbc
Here are photos from one of me recent donations (imgur 9S5B47D,DU2Q8ff). Will update with a pic with evidence on Friday.
I recommend anyone that can, to donate blood as often as possible. It is an easy thing to do that is worth so much to others.
Aussie brahs, check out http ://www .donateblood.com.au/who-can-give/am-i-eligible to see if you are eligible. Also get yourselves on the Bone Marrow register, chances are you won't ever be matched, but if you can save someones life, why not.
