As someone with really badly messed up shoulders I can't do almost all horizontal/vertical push exercises safely, and so instead I do push-ups and landmine-presses to work my chest and anterior delt and to fulfill that "push" component of lifting.
However, at the moment I just do it with the barbell starting flat on the floor rather than having the far end hooked up into a landmine device. I'm wondering if there's actually any downside to this? I've got rubber matting on the ground and I have it so that the far end of the bar is against my power rack, so it doesn't move about and scoot back from me when I press. All in all it feels pretty awesome to finally have a pressing exercise I can do pain-free (there's a bit of shoulder clicking on most reps, but no actual pain at all) and I don't see the need to actually buy a landmine device to keep doing it, but am I wrong? Is there any tangible benefit to using a landmine device rather than just propping the end of the bar against my rack and using it from there?
Thanks!

If what you're doing is working, then you can stay with it. I tried doing t-bar rows by shoving a barbell into a corner, and it always moved on me a little bit. I bought a body-solid landmine for fairly cheap and I love it. I use it weekly for t-bar rows, and once or twice a month will work upper chest with a landmine press. I've thought about buying a second actually. It's been a real nice addition to my home gym. There's a lot you can do with them - more than I've ever been able to incorporate into my routine.
This is the one that I purchased: http://www.amazon.com/Body-Solid-Piv...words=landmineSTAND TALL AND SHAKE THE HEAVENS!!
