Cables not bad. I install cable in people's homes and apartments. You don't need any schooling, just on the job training. The pay is decent, it's easy to get time off, and you get to work on your own without a boss micromanaging you.

If listening to Frank Yang all these years has taught me anything, it's that people who get chit done don't just talk about it on the internet, they phucking do it, a-la the end of Frank's bulk from Brad Pitt mode to what he is now where he was slamming 10k calorie days.
I know there are a lot of guys on here in a similar position. How do you cope with this? What are your plans to escape this ****?
Escaping or doing something about it is different entirely. Escaping would imply escaping TO somewhere, and unless you have a direction, you aren't going to go far.
If your goal is freedom, I'd say do what makes the most money. With enough money, you can (mostly) buy your freedom. If the goal is something else specific like helping people or following an ideal - that again is a different story. Why Insurance Does Not Make You Safe:

after working in the military and in the film industry where hours are long and can go all night I want a 9-5 job where I get paid well. Hell, I'll get to come home and have time to see my family and kids which is what matters. Along with a good gym session.
I don't have a family yet but that's my reason for wanting a 9-5.*rescued two dogs crew

You want to not work and spend all day hanging out and doing stuff with friends? That's what childhood is for bro.
I've worked a lot of chitty jobs in my day, and sitting in an office in front of a computer isn't one of them. Have you picked orders in a massive freezer? How about packing 20KG bags of humalite all day long? Brb spending all day in a tented area packing material into bags that have a cancer warning on them.
You should go work some crap labor jobs just so you can appreciate what you have now.

I'm in the same boat brah, considering moving out west and finding a job near the mountains or going to Europe for a few months. Gotta free your mind, find out what it is you want and do it. You only got one life to live, better to do what you want and be at peace with yourself rather then be a mindless sheep punching a time clock.

I know what you mean op. I'm currently sitting at my desk now bored as hell. It's kind of sad but I always wanted to be a UPS driver just so I could be out and about lol
Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived. Book: The way of the superior man
Chapter: Do it for love
The way a man penetrates the world should be the same way he penetrates his woman: not merely for personal gain or pleasure, but to magnify love, openness , and depth."
There are two ways to deal with woman and world without compromising your true gifts or dribbling away the force of your deep being.o One way is to renounce sexual intimacy and worldliness, totally dedicating yourself without distraction or compromise to the path you choose to pursue, free of the seemingly constant demands of woman and world.o The other way is to **** both to smithereens, to ravish them with your love unsheathed, to give your true gifts despite the constant tussle of woman and world. Hold nothing back
Was taking notes on this book while reading and what you said reminded me of this.Last edited by Rayaarito; 12-18-2014 at 07:58 AM.

This is actually a good thing that's happening to you.
Unlike the others at your job, you have realized that you don't want to waste your time in there, they can throw another 10k on your salary, it might sound good for a while but you'll realize quickly it's not worth it.
Get out there, do something more rewarding.

This Opie.
Did that chit for 4 years back in my early 20's. Most shifts are 4 days on, 10 hour days, so you always get 3 day weekends.
Job literally never got old. It was always something new, and you were always going to new places.
That "staring at the clock until 5" didn't exist with that job.
Pay is also very nice. Was paid 50k/year back in 2007 to be an internet/phone/cable tech.

Oh really, want to trade? I work 10-12 hours a day most days for 7 days a week. Mirin? Somedays I only work about 7 hours because I get to go to the gym before work but most days I only get to lift after work....
Some days I just want to ride away down the highway.Squat: 135 lbs
Bench: 225 lbs
Deadlift: 185 lbs
Stop quoting my stats. I know what I'm doing if I can deadlift 1.5 plates.

For the life of me, I cannot fathom the concept of a 'career' either. I just don't see the point. Either go hard or go home. slave away on your own biz, will be a lot of pain but worth it in the end. or just get a steady, simple job and live the basic/humble life. both are great. but why take the worst from both?

I feel like people will never be "truly" happy with what they have because the grass is always greener on the other side. I think you got the right idea though doing it for your family. Some people have already put in their time doing labor, long hours, minimal pay for what they do, etc. and want to settle for the 9-5. Honestly, the 9-5 isn't that bad of a choice because it doesn't phuck your body up assuming you don't let your body go. Some people are employees and want to open up their own business. Then they get one started and realize they have to put in 10x more work because it consumes your ass. Owners/CEO's and chit on some days just want to be employees because they are fed up with the responsibilities and long ass hours. 9-5 want a labor job until they realize they go home every night physically broken etc. etc. etc.

People have been doing this since the dawn of civilization. No matter what you do in life, you're gonna have to eat chit sandwiches. Sometimes you have the chance to pick your favorite flavor of chit sandwich, but often times you can't. People have been working for nothing just to survive for a very long time. See it as a positive thing. You work those chit hours, come home with money in your pocket, which you can save up and go travel, skiing, chill with your boys on the weekends, do something you love, etc. You work so you can get time to do things you love. You think celebrities enjoy being hounded 24/7? Actors working 16 hours a day? No, but they have to tell us that they "enjoy their work" despite being treated like slaves because otherwise we would rage at them for being ungrateful. Notice that actors dont go home and "act" on their free time. They do some **** that they truly, truly enjoy.I guarantee you will get used to working.

I've been fortunate enough to see what doing manual labor and having a reg 9-5 is like from my dad and uncle.
My dad works in the parts department at his dealership and has busted his ass to provide for my family. I've been on my own for a while but I have 2 younger sisters who are trying to stay on their own and working hard. My dad has always been able to put food on the table but he rarely gets to take any days off because he always has to work.
My uncle on the other hand got a marketing degree and is a regional manager etc and makes good money working from home. He has more than enough to provide for his family and more. He gets to work out and take vacations to nice places often.
I want my uncles lifestyle, bless my Dad for working his ass off but I'll take a "drone" 9-5 that allows me to provide and travel.*rescued two dogs crew

That's what I pretty much did with lifting and why I started competing. Also, riding motorcycles. Job is boring as fawk but I get paid over 80K a year (gonna break 90 this year) to pretty much dick around and do a little work. I HATE my job for the most part, I'm extremely bored of it and find it unfulfilling but at least it's not overly stressful (most of the time) and I don't feel physically drained when I'm done so I can hit the gym hard afterwards. I was getting zero sense of accomplishment at work so I basically got that from gym and competing. Also started tracking my bike which is $$$$$ but I can afford it. Felt good but at the end of the day my job still sucks. I'm seriously thinking about doing my own thing. I'm a computer programmer so I'm thinking about doing a side project and maybe create some mobile apps. Already have a pretty good idea for one that could make big $ ..... just need to find the time and motivation to do it which is hard when I'm already in front of a computer for 40 hours a week at work......the last thing I want to do when I get home is get on the computer.
I definitely agree with OP about people who are so into their job. I've gone out with a friend before and some buddy of his he met through work.....dudes are all talking about work and this or that project all excited and I'm like WTF? I'm on my own free time right now, why would I want to talk about work? I seriously, NEVER talk about work outside of work because I seriously don't give a ****.Aesthetic Glutes Crew

I think it all comes down to whether the company you are working for makes or breaks you.
If you feel the atmosphere is dull as soon as you walk through the doors, that job is not for you. Some companies have that friendly chill vibe that makes it a company to work for.
I would work a 9-5 job at a company I liked and would never have to worry about being upset coming in on Monday.
I went to two high schools in my teens and one of them I dreaded coming into on a Monday and the other one I couldn't wait to wake up and go to.
This is how a job is suppose to feel, you have to want to come to work.
