Confectioners sugar or powdered sugar has cornstarch in it.
Yes, it's a calculated risk, but the other dangers, besides the risk of injuries, are rare. I only carry a knife, no bear or pepper spray. I'm terrified of coming across large animals like a mountain lion or bear.
Most of the people I meet are genuinely friendly and helpful. I partnered up with a nice guy from Olympia, WA when I was having trouble getting back to the trailhead on one trip. I hate getting lost though. The fear really kicks in when I can't figure out where I am.
I've only met one person that gave me bad vibes, but not in a "this guy is gonna rape me" kind of way. He was just weird, very hippie. He kept talking about moving stones from one peak to another. I saw him later in the day as I was leaving in my car, far from where he needed to be and going in the wrong direction. I wanted to tell him to turn around, but I thought he might ask for a ride. I wasn't comfortable with that, so I just left. I still feel guilty about it, but it was the safe thing to do. I've learned to trust my instincts (with people and locations too)..
Eta: I think the women who are too scared to go out by themselves are lacking the confidence in their own abilities.
Eta2: I personally love the challenge. The question is always, can I do it? It's an amazing feeling when you can say YES! And it's fun.

i had trouble logging back in to tell you. i made this edit before you posted -
so in my case, my inexperience and lack gear are part of the reason why i wouldn't go alone atm. i also have different priorities out of necessity right now. some emergency expenses.
a while back my brother had a bad ankle sprain on Mt Washington and he had to crawl on his way down, but he was with friends on a popular path.start where you are

But see, if you were prepared and had the gear, you would at least consider it. I'm talking about the women who who write off going by themselves, because they "just can't". You don't need any experience or gear to go hiking. It's just walking on dirt. There are plenty of nice trails that you can enjoy with only a pair of sneakers and a backpack.
Edit: The new stuff I'm getting into, no one wants to come along, guys nor gals.Last edited by barbrox; 12-07-2014 at 08:01 AM.

you're right. you're most definitely right. i've done that kind of hiking.
i've been experimenting with different dosa (crepe) batters over here. i made a savory one with green chilies, *nions, bajra (millet) and other flours, and flax seeds. it came out crunchy with a soft center - nothing like a crepe for consistency, but it was tasty.start where you are

Only came across one bear in cal by Huntington Lake (about 60 miles south of Yosemite. It was pitch black was walking back to camp from lake with my buddy Arthur. He stopped to tie his shoe. Heard something to the left and behind me and turned with the flashlifght on the ground, said,"Hurry up Art" chit my pants, I was talking to a huge bear. It was so dark I didn't know what it was until the eyes reflected back at me. By this time Art was caught up and WTF? are you doing. I had already turned away from the bear and was already starting to make tracks, I said just be quiet and walk with me back to camp and we left.
I didn't tell him about the bear until we were back to our tent. The most important aspect of weight training; whether for the athlete, bodybuilder, or average person is to better ones health and ability without injury. - Bill Pearl

Where are the pics? Tsk tsk. You know the drill.
Holy ****! I think I would be too scared to even move. While I was in a ranger station, I collected like 3-4 pamphlets on bear safety. You know what they all said? DON'T HIKE SOLO!
I know. I am sad panda.
It would be awesome just to visit. Norway is always listed somewhere in the top 10 hiking locations in the world.
Brb booking my flight.
I should be nicer to CSB. Maybe I could cajole him to come along with me next year.

Got a few good chuckles with the walmart stories and the redbaron comments haha. (and the bear story haha)
Also I got a pretty good deal on a full copy of windows 8 64 bit so im going to get to tinker with that soon. (ive been curious since ive used it a bit in the past) One thing I did like about it was that it was more memory efficient from what I read.Last edited by stingray72; 12-07-2014 at 09:51 PM.
Why do I do this weightlifting thing for the last 34 years with all its ups and downs life has handed me? Because each time I came back stronger. NEVER GIVE UP. Gym life is about more than muscles getting bigger and weights going up. Its wisdom discipline dedication humility you name it.

I want a new laptop. I have no clue where to even start. My cousins do fancy upgrades like you, but I want a whole new one. Can't spend too much on it though.
Yum. Do you like cardamom? Put some in it, it's awesomeness.
