My dad and step-mom will be my new neighbors. The house behind them has been occupied for the last 10 years by a not so "stable" couple. Long story short, the lady will be going to jail soon, and she needed to sell the house. We were able to get a great price, with cash being a big incentive. It's pretty amazing what we picked it up at. That being said, the house needs a lot of work. My dad will be supplying the expertise (he's a professional engineer with his own business) and I, the manual labor. It's going to be a long process and I'm sure by the end of it, I will have more than $50K in it. I'm very excited to finally have my own place. I currently live in a friend's 1 car garage that we ghetto fabricated, in south Florida.
My goal is to use this thread as a log of all the work and development that will be taking place. I know next to nothing about home renovation and will be using this as a learning opportunity. Hopefully others can learn from my experience. Can't wait to take a sledgehammer and get to work on this thing!
Specs - ~3100 Sq Ft, 4/3, 2 car garage, located in Jacksonville, FL.
Pics as it stands now.....the lady has to legally be out 1 month from today.
That's it for now. Won't be able to do much until this lady is completely moved out. The first thing that needs to be addressed is the lawn, which will include yanking out those stupid palm trees right next to the front door. The HOA is going to be on my ass to get it cleaned up (previous owner was grandfathered in and didn't have to adhere to HOA rules).
What do you brahs think? Do I (my house) have potential?

Of course that house has potential there OP.
Its rough around the edges but that's just from the time when it was built and basic neglect from the previous owner.
I'm mirin the 3100' for sure.
Depending on where you are at with pricing there is nothing but GAINS there yo!
Congrats on doing what needs to be done.
Not sure of the tax benefits of home ownership is FL so it will be interesting to see what comes about for your taxes next year.
