I concur with OP.
Also, MARK RIPPETOE says to curl in the squat rack. I personally spend my entire workout in a power rack, I don't care if I hog it up, my school has 4 and I'm the only one in there not doing some BS. Only twice a week do I venture out, and I ride that lat pulldown machine for the duration I need it for.

Yeah, try working out in a highschool gym.
I'm benching, arms, and shoulders in there tomorrow. I'm going to own the chit out of that power rack. When I'm OHPing more than every kid is quarter squatting, I'll be remembering what you said.RAW Powerlifting goals:

Saw someone do dips in squat rack
"There is no question that belts assist in generating a few more Newton-meters (or foot-pounds) of torque in the torso through elastic recoil of a bent orso that is stiffened with a belt. However, if a neutral spine is preserved throughout the lift this effect is minimal. In other words, to obtain the maximal effect from a belt, the lifter must lift poorly and in a way that exposed the back to a much higher risk of injury!”

I've benched in the squat rack before.
I just hate when people take over the squat rack. There's a group of lifters that take it over for hours at a time. And they are all fat AND weak. It pisses everyone off.Best meet lifts (all raw): 865 squat, 565 bench, 720 deadlift.
Best meet total: 2110
Gym lifts: 903 squat, 565 bench, 725 deadlift.

99% of the people on here, yourself included, don't know 'what they respond better to'. you do what you enjoy. and it is absolutely 100% fact that volume =/= results, regardless of the person. high volume is just to make the person feel like they're working hard, when in reality most of it is redundant. and no they don't. a dumbbell curl in a supinated position constantly will not give any different results than a barbell curl. plus, the only people who need to worry about working different heads of a muscle are professional bodybuilders.

I have been here 4 years longer than you have. Please, don't tell me what I respond better to.
If I want to do 6 sets for my biceps, why is it useless to do 3 with DB's and 3 with a BB? I don't believe the DB curl and the BB curl are identical.
Why not have the best of both worlds and do both DB and BB? If you're not opposed to that, then why is it bad to do both variations in the same workout? At the end of the day, the goal is to hit your intended rep range and progress with your next workout.Last edited by RainingBlood; 03-25-2014 at 09:43 PM.

do you not have ****ing barbells for curls in your gym? i thought they all did? they go up 10lbs from like 20 to 100 or 120 in my gym. and i do OHP, bent over rows, squats, and barbell shrugs in the power rack. my gym only has 1 power rack and then a smith machine next to it. if you have those other curl bars in ur gym and u still curl in the squat rack then you're just an inconsiderate *******, you could do that anywhere but people can only squat or OHP or bent over row in the power rack

i agree, barbell and dumbbell are not identical. you cant supinnate your wrist on barbell curls. but barbell curls give me a better pump and imo are better for mass building than dumbell curls. but i love doing dumbbell preacher curls. i usually do barbell, hammer, and d-bell preachers one workout then incline curl, circle hammers (hard to explain and idk the real name i just call them that), and either barbell curl or barbell preacher curls.
for standing curls i prefer barbell over dumbbell though
