I know what you're trying to say, but those standards are usually created and upheld by families/society/community/religion. All of these "offline" social institutions are breaking down/losing their influence on peoples lives and being replaced by people, groups and communities online.
People normally wouldn't do these things out in public, but they do it on the internet for two reasons:
1) they feel there's a sense of anonymity (and with that comes a sense that those offline standards don't apply)
2) they're looking for praise, appreciation, fame etc.
People are becoming more and more like actors. They are just performing for an audience (the internet). Prank channels are another example of this. Guys go out into their communities and act like retards to the people around them so they can appease their fans who exist on the internet; they alienate the people around them to cater to a group of people they've never even seen or met.
Selfies like these are stupid because people are doing them to try and be funny, to get a reaction out of people, to make it seem like they're funny, witty etc. They're taking pictures of themselves in washrooms with other people around, breaking into peoples houses to take selfies etc. No respect for the people around them because they're trying to "get a good laugh" from people on the internet.
Great example is this one:
This guy in the background can't even have some privacy while taking a piss because this kid feels it's a great opportunity for him to take a selfie because he knows he'll get the reaction of "omg, can't believe you did this haha" etc. and it'll make him feel good.
He shows no respect or consideration for the guy in the washroom who's just trying to take a piss, because for him the opportunity to take a "funny" selfie and get some likes on FB or a retweet on twitter is just too good to pass up.
