I did 2mi on the stupid treadmill this evening before lifting. Did stretching and foam rolling after working out. Think I'll putter about at low miles but more days for another couple weeks. Then I'll start a 12 week half marathon mileage ramp up plan. There are some races I'd like to do, but I don't book them in advance anymore. I've gotten the flu before a HM before and since then, I'll pay more to schedule a race just before the event. My shift may change as well at my request and I work every other weekend.
Congrats on 11 days in a row. That's great. I think the most I've done is 4 days in a row.

Day 12 is Day 12...good job!
I had a lifting session, and then...ran. Only 2.01 miles
Distance: 2.01 miles
Time: 19:46 minutes
I realized that I've fulfilled my end of the bargain for the *holiday challenge* by 4 miles. So, that means, I could opt to not run for roughly 4 days. lol
Kidding.
But, tomorrow, back to Bill Starr, so probably won't do any cardio since it's a *heavy* day. I'm kinda spent after deadlifts on those days.
Keep up the good work, runnahs!

Ah yeah! Great job girl you're a lifting beast.
I find (mostly due to time constraints) I can't do a good job of both, so this year running is winning out. Hopefully it will help me lean out some more, then get back to lifting heavy.
Thinking of doing two ultra-marathons this year so lifting may be on the back burner for a while.***kneedraggers crew***

An ultra marathon would be an incredible feat, for sure! If you go for it, good luck…keep us posted.
In light of that, here’s something I thought was kinda cool.

I attempted the one Ultra this year and failed miserably at it, so have to do it again and complete it. Have another lined up about 6 weeks before that to use as a training run, shooting for about 3/4 distance on that one, to make sure everything is in check and I can complete the goal run. I learned a lot on the one I attempted this year, and have a lot of work to do, to fix some of my mistakes, and prepare better.

Aw, well maybe 2014 will be your year!
I run across a lot of articles and such w/respect to running, this one is pretty thorough. Read item #13.

You might be able to swing both lifting, and training for an ultra…depending on your time constraints. Only so many hours in a day, I know.
Whatever you choose, good luck and stay injury free.Last edited by whatevergirl; 12-10-2013 at 01:24 PM.

Hey i just found this link but here is what has worked for me in running and I started at age 50. I thought running was like lifting, you had to go hard and fast and I stayed injured all the time (ITB and shin splints). Then I started running every day just a little. It took time but the injuries have gone away and now it is fun too run.
As far as electonics, I run naked, no gps, heart rate monitors etc. I read the book Iron Wars about the 1989 Ironman, Mark Allen and Dave Scott were the subjects. Dave Scott wouldn't even wear a watch and it cost him $$$ in sponsorship. I've only run 3 HM's but my time has been dropping...A LOT.
1 more thing, I had to quit working legs due to running and cycling..I do miss the squat rack.
Good Luck and enjoy your runs.

For the past few weeks I've been following this program and I'm making more progress than I have in years:

Just trying to get back into the running seriously again. Glad to find this running thread. Ran in High School and been running now last 15 years (52 now). I've been lifting seriously for a year now and due to a knee issue layed low on the cardio. I've got a local fun run(26.2) I want to attend on New Years Day. So I've been a week now alternating workouts. Lift-Run-Lift-Run-Etc. So once I've gotten in a 3day leg workout, 5 miles then Legs then 6 miles, a bit taxing, I was glad on day 4 to work on chest. I'm thinking gonna be tough after another round of legs.
