I think the only Ford diesel that is better than the 6.6 Dmax was the 7.3. Probably the best diesel ever produced for a pickup truck, and it's a damn shame that emissions standards killed it.
I did hear a rumor awhile back that Ford was teaming with CAT to produce a new diesel, but I guess that never happened. Would be epic, especially if they designed one for the F150's.BB.COM MISC STORE!! Provided by JSP and Muscleman420. Support the Misc!

What? The 7.3, 6.0, 6.4 and 6.7 are all solid engines. The 6.0, after TSB's are taken care of, are stacking up to be just as reliable as the 7.3. Same with the 6.4.
The 6.7 is still too new to tell, so we'll see in a few years(This is Fords in house diesel, so far, it's spectacular. And has power out the ass)
6.6 has to be one of the worst diesel engines produced to date. They have power, they have mileage, but they lack strongly in the reliability/longevity department.
Both the 5.9 and 6.7 cummins are fantastic engines. It's everything around them that sucks. I think Chryslers electrical systems on the diesel have to be the worst everXtreme Formulations Aficionado

Credibility : Dmax Owner
I owned a LB7, they are mean looking trucks. And if it wasn't for the issues and iffy towing capabilities, I would have kept it.
I'm not bashing Chevy, I am a Chevy guy. But the Dmax sucks. After working as a Diesel mech for 5 years, Duramax's live in the shop. 06-07.5 LBZ's were the best, but still mediocre.
Most common reasons they were brought in?
EGR failure
Warped heads
Head gaskets
Injector wire harness poor location
Pump rub(LLY as well)
Upgrading the stock cooling system (horrid design and efficiency)
Glowplug reflash (not needed on the LML's)
PS Pump relocation (up to LLY, did not tighten enough on some trucks)
PCV gunking up, reroute necessary
Lift motors on driver side
And then petty normal ****Xtreme Formulations Aficionado

I can see your point with a lot of the poor designs by GM such as the injector harness for LLYs, transfer case pump issues, and the PCV crap but there are easy fixes for all of that. The other stuff sounds like pretty common stuff for all diesels with stupid drivers.
FWIW, my LBZ hasn't had any issues but I blocked and disabled my EGR, PCV rerouted, and other small things to make it run better.

I bought a 2012 Ford F150 so obviously I am biased.... I LOVE my truck. If you go Ford I would go for the 5.0 V8 or the 6.2 V8 and avoid their 6 cylinder eco boost engines. People tend to either love them or hate them and the ones that hate them have had their trucks almost cause accidents due to loss of power when they press the gas pedal at highway speeds.
I have a 5.0 V8 so I don't have to worry about problems like that, however I do sometimes wish I had the 6.2 V8 since it accelerates better and has more power. The 5.0 isn't bad by any means, but I was spoiled because I got to drive my dad's Tundra with a 5.7 V8 and having the bigger engine is nice.
Like someone else said earlier, your best bet is to test drive the trucks you are interested in (back to back if possible).

I cant speak to the new 3/4 tons, but I am getting about 18mpg combined (75/25 hwy/city). Keep in mind mileage suffers up here a bit with the snowstorms we have been having, I spend most of my city miles in 4-high and have had a bit of warm-up idling.
Supposed to be another foot of snow here Sunday/Monday.------♥♥-----

Went hunting in a Raptor this weekend. I've never really been a fan of the raptor mainly because of the price tag and terrible payload but for lazy, redneck, never leave your truck hunting it doesn't get much better. It's pretty much a four wheeler with Cadillac surroundings. A few pics fun.

There really is no "best" truck to buy whether we are talking diesels or gas they all have their pros/cons and there is no disputing that, there is no absolutely perfect truck. Pick which one you think looks the best, is priced to your liking and appeals the most for your intended uses and roll with it. This is my opinion, do your research but don't overcomplicate
