Not an easy decision but I say Shawn Ray due to his consistency. I may be wrong but I can never remember a single show where he wasn't at least Top 3 material. In addition during his era they were still rewarding lines and symmetry more so then today. His mass should have been enough to get the trophy at least once. Flex and Levrone were amazing but a bit more inconsistent imo, but they probably each had individual showings that would beat Shawn.

I cannot believe it is this close. Ray is almost perfect, but just too short, which SHOULD be held against a bodybuilder. It is all about genetic superiority after all.
Levrone had a weak back and this chest would get overpowered by his delts and tris.
Flex was perfect, conditioned, insane muscle bellies and fullness. He should have won over Ronnie in 98 and would have if I was judging. Later on, Ronnie got too good.

sigh.
No he wouldn't, because other judges who know how to judge would still have ronnie in front of flex, obviously, and your 'vote' would be meaningless.
Flex was recently asked in MD if he thought that if he had better condition (his 98 AC condition) in the 98 O, would he be able to beat ronnie. His answer was no.

Flex actually stated plenty of times his chest needed to be bigger for his delts and arms. His lats were also a bit high but that in-turn made his waist appear smaller. In terms of physique and completeness, Shawn comes out on top 100%. His height was his only downfall, which couldn't be helped. With that said, he built the best body for himself that he possible could, which is more than the other 2 could say, having visible flaws in their physique.

all of you can go on and on about how beautiful, Rays lines were, his proportions, his conditioning...etc.... the facts are simple, he was shade over 5ft6, he was 215 pounds at his absolute heaviest, always around 210. He was never ever ever ever never going to win an Olympia. Its so easy, so blatantly easy to see the direction bodyvuilding was going. You are never going to have a miniature 210 pounder winning a contest against the massmonsters of that era. So place him second, and put distance between Yates and the rest, so that you cant critique the placings. Ray made no0 improvements, had he got up to 225-230, now thats another story. Kinda like Dex. Dex trumps Ray.

You do realize Dex lies about his weight, right? Dex tries to act like he is 230-240, but he isn't. Look at it this way, Jay was in the 240's in 01 and 09, Ronnie won his first Olympia in the 240's. Levrone and Flex both competed in the 240's. All of these guys including Dex was conditioned, yet Dex was 3 inches shorter AT LEAST vs these guys and weighed within 10lbs.. Yeah right.
Lastly, Ray beat his competition fair and square. We all know your Dillet obsessed and Ray is the opposite of that, but it's no reason to get upset that your favorite struggled for top 6 despite being tall and wide whereas Ray was short and narrow getting 2nd. Ray often was the most conditioned on stage along with Dorian. He also had the BEST shape and lines and top tier posing. It's not hard to give Ray the nod over less complete, softer athletes even if they are bigger.
