Muscle on the sides that looks like a rib cage

Does anybody know what is the muscle on the sides of chest that look like the rib cage, I am pretty sure it is a muscle and not actual ribcage. Also what types of exercises will hit that muscle well?

I dont know wtf it is but it was there when I dieted down. It is muscle because it doesnt feel like bone, but it is just on top of the ribs, giving them the shape. Must be the intercostals.

Serratus is up higher by the armpit. The muscle im thinking of it lower along the ribs. I believe it is the intercostals because it flexes during forced exhalation.

Here we go. Two different muscles. Serratus is the top one, intercostal is the lower.

    That's incorrect,

The muscles below are the obliques, the intercoastal muscles are between the ribs

They're not shaped like ribs, they are just not big enough to cover them completely.

I really believe what you're talking about is the serratus anterior.

Hi, i have slimmed down and I can actually see these too, im pretty sure its not my rib cage at least. The thing is, and I know people may have different opinions on this, but I don't like the fact that it looks like a rib cage, kind of looks like you're too skinny in my opinion. So what exercises are there to build this muscle so it perhaps doesn't show the ribs through it anymore, or take on the shape of the ribs?
