Watched John compete on Sat. Good effort, he came 6th out of 8 in a really tough group. I don't even understand how half of them made the weigh in, put me next to any of them and I look tiny yet I'm within 1Kg on the scales. Perhaps I have insanely dense bones?

Nope, I pussied out of the one on Saturday but with good reason - it was well beyond me. I think John was only pushing me to enter so hard because he wanted someone in he was sure to beat. LOL. That one had crazy stuff in it: LINK
John's wife took some vids from the day: LINK I love the way she points at the sack at the end of the Medley vid to tell him to get the hell back in there like some naughty kid.
We'll be doing some more training this coming weekend hopefully, I'm just trying to get stronger all around for the comp in March.Last edited by lunchbreak; 02-18-2013 at 02:51 PM.

Er yeah, guest appearance as skinny supporter. In his last comp John just randomly stopped and let go during the carry race when he could have done more so Jess was instructed to give him hell to stop him giving up. Made for a funny moment anyway. The chap with the stopwatch is Tom Hibbert. He might not look like all that much but the guy can press 125Kg logs. He's crazy strong for his size.

3 x tyre flips (tyre~300Kg) <-- explosively flipped so didn't have to reposition, much easier
Off to John's parent's house to do some outdoor log training. Almost got freezer burn off the damn thing, the weather was trying to snow and the log was stored in a shed with no heating.

Cheers, John makes me feel so weak. He can strict press about 85Kg.
The split jerks are very much a work in progress, my form is still awful but I'm trying to improve. I have a hard time resting any bar on my delts due to the combination of silly long forearms and stupid narrow shoulders.
I'll have to make some vids.

Heh, bored on site now. I had everything I needed to do sorted within a few hours of arriving up here but I'm stuck until my colleague finishes up his meetings tomorrow.
My company is doing some refit work on this ugly grey ship.

Yeah, 5 hours drive or so each way. The hotel had great food and a comfy bar so I'm not complaining. I've been lurking reading/watching BTO's journal for the past 6 months or so. He's a damn strong, impressive chap. Strongman is his main focus, for me it's just something different on the side, a way to set a goal and test myself against it. Eventually I'd like to be proficient at any strength sport I turn to but right now I'm painfully aware I just need more base strength.

Popped into the gym today as they are "relaunching" with a new name etc. Supplement company CNP sent some folk to give out samples and Alvin Small IFBB pro bodybuilder was there. Seems like a nice chap, unbelievably huge, about as natural as water flowing uphill but impressive nonetheless. There were some challenges going on, I didn't take part, grabbed some freebies, stuck around watching and chatting for a bit then left them to it.

Great work LB ..... the lifts keep getting bumped: strong squatting at 117.5k x 3; great job on the BP 95k x 7 PR and really strong deads at 170k x 5
It looks like your weight has gone up as well, not surprising given that all your lifts are getting stronger .... is 195 current and do you plan to limit it to stay in a a weight class (like 198lbs/90kg)?"Better to wear out than rust out!"
Squat 165kg/363lbs
Deadlift 190kg/418lbs

Thanks Andrew. I'm still chasing the squat numbers from last year, but this time my form is better, I'm pushing evenly from both legs, the speed is better and the depth isn't in question. We'll see how it holds up above 120Kg.
I've moved to a very thin sliver of surplus calories now. I woke up this morning at 87.9Kg (194lb) with 2 weeks to go until the comp. I want to leave a little spare in case of water bloat etc, but I also realise I can dump 1Kg+ pretty easily by using a low cal/carb day to meet the weigh in if I have to. Honestly I feel uncomfortable at this level of blubber, my body is rebelling. I think the gains have been more like 20:80 muscle to fat or less rather than the 40-50% most guys would experience. Immediately after the comp I'll be heading for a 6 week trip to absville so I can take my top off during the summer hols and not be embarrassed, then start upwards again. This may delay some lifting increases but I'll feel happier with myself.
Worst problem I'm experiencing right now is medial epicondylitis in my left elbow, what started off as a small twinge 2 weeks ago is now significantly painful. I've started doing some remedial exercises and dropped chins for now. I'm just hoping this won't hold me back on the day. I've got a golfer's elbow strap and will grab a sleeve for the comp.
Spartans gym Southampton. They have fixed the worst of the holes in the roof and moved the reception desk around. I've yet to see any new bars to replace all the crappy bent ones though.
I think you'll make that target. Deads moved upwards for me very quickly until 180Kg, then slowed but are still improving. Bodyweight seems to have big effect on them.Last edited by lunchbreak; 03-10-2013 at 03:44 AM.
