If you don't get a shower before you use a Feather you're gonna have issues. I can't use the damn things if I don't. It looks like I was attacked by a Mountain Lion on Tren.

Normally id shave with the Dovo in the middle or the dovo second from the left, but they need to be honed. I just got the one on the left back from getting new scales put on. The guy honed it for me while he had it and its incredibly sharp, so ill be shaving with that one for a while. Im waiting on a new hone though, so once it arrives i can get all these bad boys shave ready.

What's a common, easy to find after shave? I've been fine with some cetaphil moisturizer but sometimes i'll get slight irritation on my neck. I'm going to check out this whole foods type store we have since they'll probably have a lot of natural and alcohol free stuff there.. anything I should be on the look out for?

Great gif! Funny thing is since i went to a fresh blade I have more irritation then I did with the week old astra sp. I am going to have to take a day off, give my skin a break. At badger and blade there are several members who are using their same blades for a month, it's a challenge in the DE blade section. Crazy!
Today's shave just didn't work out. I'm not impressed at all. Did 2 passes and gave up.
Prep: hot shower, Neutrogena scrub
Blade/Razor: Astra SP (2), Merkur 23C
Brush: Semogue 1305 Boar
Preshave: Gromwell and Cruthers Almond Shaving Oil
Cream: TOBS Almond
Post shave: lots of cold water, Limes Skin Food
ASL: Proraso After Shave Lotion
Just couldn't get anything to work. I don't know if its hard water, or the Boar brush, but I was having a hard time getting the TOBS Almond cream to lather up at all. Finally just used about 4x my usual amount of cream and it still wouldn't hold a real lather. It was like the brush was "eating" the cream, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't build anything up. Too dry, add some water; too wet, add some more cream. Not lathering, more cream, try harder; still awful. After a few minutes of this I was getting frustrated..
Got a couple little nicks and some irritation, the razor certainly didn't glide like it should.
I will give the TOBS Almond another chance with a Badger brush another time, but if that doesn't work then it's going into the PIF pile.
I should have just skipped the shave today!!

If you want to get a start in straight shaving make an order at Whipped dog from Larry. He gives you everything you need for $60. It is called the "The sight unseen deal". It comes with a razor, leather strop, a treater balsa strop and instructions. Keep in mind the razor are not pretty but there are completely shave ready. You cannot beat that price and service when you are just starting out.

Hey guys, I've only been at this for a couple months. I have a Merkur 180 and have been using Derby blades. I really don't feel like I'm getting that close of a shave, unless I do three passes (wth, xtg, atg). I think I've got the patterns on my face down pretty well, and I haven't cut myself in weeks. Is this normal? I was considering getting better blades if that would help.

OK fellas! My shave box is now complete. I finally got the handle for it, installed it and lined the underside of the lid with felt. I've impressed myself with this. I feel like I have a priceless treasure from King Tuts tomb. This was a fun project
The straights in the bottom pic are my restore projects. I Picked up 2 of them the other day and the one all the way to the right is one I acquired on ebay a few days ago. Its the most badass one so far and I can't wait to restore it.

Ive been trying to use up some of the "crappier" blades from my sample pack before i order some more, rather than just throw them out. Used a Derby for the first time and found it to be better than expected. Quite honestly, i think i got a better shave from the Derby than i do from Astras...weird, i know. I need to throw an Astra in there again to compare though.
Tried a 7AM and didnt like it, sub par shave.
Going to try the Dorco and Treet blades this week. Reviews on them are nothing special so i dont expect much. Any of you guys tried either blade before?
As of right now im leaning towards Feathers as my first bulk order. Hard to pass up 100 Astras for $10 too.

I am surprised by that too. Yes I shave with a straight.... But I read a lot on B$B.com and people say that they do not care for the Derby blades. I am planning on getting a D/E in the future too so I can get rid of my disposables for good. I am still not great with my straight so I have to clean up on my neck most of the time.Free Agent...
