Toning is a bullcrap myth. Looking toned requires a low bf% and some degree of muscularity. To look toned means to cut. Lifting past 11 reps is for endurance.

Lift heavy (5-8 reps) and ensure that calories in < calories out, whilst getting your macros

Just keep lifting dude. If your avatar is recent you're going to gain muscle no matter what. Make sure it feels difficult. If your weight at 12 reps is so light you barely feel the muscle, that's no good.

    Don't ever use "tone" again

    12 reps is too much

    Aim for 6-8 reps
    All time greatest lifts:

    Bench-305
    Squat-460
    Dedlift-500
    Glute Spread-350

Lol okay guess I was misinformed by other people. I usually do 8-10 reps but I heard that 12 helps you looking more cut. Sorry bout the ignorance that's why i asked. Thanks for the help

12 isn't too many. but they're right, it won't make you more toned. Mix up how many reps you do (by using different weights) 4-12 is fine. Above all else make sure you're lifting intensely and start eating better.

Start lifting heavy. Go on a strength based program like SS, babylover's SS or just google for a good program..and keep your calories around 300-500 more than your required amount, you will start gaining muscle and probably loose some fat too. When you some loose fat and have a good amount of muscle, you will look 'toned'. Just be dedicated and consistent, you will do good.
