fixed... actually you are wrong.. look at all powerlifters they all get a good placing and position their feeet.. you are pushing off the ground - having your feet anchored in the ground helps push upwards.. (if it didnt matter why wouldnt powerlifters or anyone lifting heavy weight simply let their feet dangle off the bench?)

Riiiiiight. Now I'm no powerlifter or pro bb but i have pushed 270lbs for 2 without a spot and i can safely say in my 4 years of lifting that the only thing my feet help me do on the bench is stop my body rolling to the side a little. I wouldn't say that I get any extra power by doing so. If you're PUSHING through your feet you're cheating your chest buddy.

hmm, perhaps not 'pushing' with your feet, but I definitely like to get a good grip on the ground when pushing heavy weight.. and by no means has my chest suffered because of it (or anyone I know for that matter) or perhaps, as you say, it is more of a stability and control factor - whatever the case it does not negate the fact that this photo is impressive because he lacks whatever element and benefit we attribute to having the ability to have our feet well placed on the ground - ultimately making his lift that much more impressive, in my eyes at least.

Ofcourse having the feet on the ground helps! Thats why in powerlifting you cannot get your a$$ off the bench - otherwise you would be using your legs a lot.
Keeping the back flat and legs up will maximally involve the chest. But is it worth the risk ?
Anyway, franco is not using his feet because he cannot. He is short.

For a powerlifting bench you are supposed to try to 'drive your feet through the floor'. But powerlifting is about hoisting enormous ammounts of weight, no isolating a single muscle group or anything.

Well we're all stronger on the decline than incline or flat so powerlifters extend their legs as far as possible to distribute the weight on the shoulder blades and as little on the feet and butt. Thats why they arch like a sob while keeping their butt on the bench, but their butt is not holding any appreciable weight whatsoever, it jus to get the green lights. This makes it almost a decline press. There is barely any weight on the buttock area, This will boost your bench about 20-30 lbs
So...yes the way Franco is benching up super hard.Last edited by colombianofreak; 12-08-2007 at 02:36 PM.
