    Sources of protein

Hey all, I have JUST started lifting and I have a question. For protein right now, I have cottage cheese, whey protein, lean chicken breast, yogurt and egg whites, that I eat at different times of the day so I don't get tired of any one thing. I also have tuna, but I find myself GAGGING while trying to eat fish. What would be a useful alternative to it? I only eat it once a day for lunch, and I don't want to lose grams of protein. Would a protein bar + fish oil be a good replacement? Thanks in advance

I've always been told not to eat protein bars as a source of protein. I would find a protein shake which tastes good to you and rely on that, or, try salmon or some sort of lean meat.

oops. I just realized you said you already have whey, so nevermind on the protein shake.

Yeah, I was thinking of beef, but I think that has too much fat in it, unless I buy the lean kind. Or I could just do two protein shakes a day instead of just one post workout. How does that sound?

You want slow-digesting protein at most times other than PWO, so a whey shake isn't a good choice. If a shake would be convenient, check out some protein blends that include casein. Canned chicken and salmon are also good options, although they're quite a bit more expensive than tuna.

If you're trying to put on some muscle there's nothing wrong with beef. I like buying some lean beef cuts from the grocery and snacking on them, also beef can help with your testosterone production. But to answer your question, there's nothing wrong with 2 protein shakes per day.

even if you do use casien protein i think you should always take in whole food over supplements whenever you can. so unless your pressed for time i would go with whole food. you can eat beef as long as its lean cuts of steak or use extra lean ground beef, turkey is another great source of protein.
