Pretty sure it's like 280k in the US. You can also get special deals from the government like a veteran loan or a rural loan. You want to be realistic about your budget, people are out here taking 30 year loans and paying huge interest just for status. Taking a 30 year loan is often a chitty deal. That's like your 20s to your 50s so almost your entire working life, huge interest, just for a slightly lower monthly payment.
I don't think anyone actually needs a multi-million dollar home, but plenty of people are willing to sell their entire lives to the bank for this. Just think about what it means to borrow a huge sum and spend many years paying it off. Every hour of work that goes to paying the loan is an hour of your life where your ass belongs to the bank.
I know people with families and stable lives that will probably rent until they die. I know people with large home loans and no real prospect of having a family. What do you think success looks like? The idea of needing a home loan is literally a marketing scheme to WWII veterans by savings and loan associations. I'll probably take a government loan just to eventually own acreage, but I don't think I'll die if I don't.
