Ex-Rutgers student guilty of invading roommate's privacy, facing 10 years in jail

the verdict came in today on this case of the kid that killed himself when his roommate filmed him having sex with another guy and broadcasted it on twitter and ****. hes now been convicted of essentially a hate crime and invasion of privacy and faces a maximum of 10 yrs in prison and deportation. while i dont think he should have done what he did, to ruin someones life over something so petty and put them away for 10 years is pretty ridiculous. i have no problem with gay people but killing yourself over something like that is pathetic and punishing someone that badly for somebody elses inability to cope is pretty unjust imo. anyone else have any thoughts on this?
