Everyone says that macros and calories in/out will determine your body comp and weight gain/loss. So why does everyone talk about post workout nutrition? Does timing matter or not? Its either one or the other.. Interested to hear opinions.

Pre-exercise (and/or during-exercise) nutrient intake often has a lingering carry-over effect into the post-exercise period. Throughout the day, there's a constant overlap of meal digestion & nutrient absorption. For this reason, the effectiveness of nutrient timing does not require a high degree of precision.
The Primary Laws of Nutrient Timing
The First Law of Nutrient Timing is: hitting your daily macronutrient targets is FAR more important than nutrient timing.
The Second Law of Nutrient Timing is: hitting your daily macronutrient targets is FAR more important than nutrient timing.Think you can, think you can't - doesn't matter. Either way, you're right.

a) Because marketers for supplement companies can be good at their jobs. By exploiting certain studies of limited relevance - and generally inapplicable to the context of normal human nutrition - they can make a plausible-sounding argument that it's important for gains.
b) Because there's no harm in it, except to your wallet. A nice cold post-workout shake can hit the spot sometimes.Think you can, think you can't - doesn't matter. Either way, you're right.

"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon
