    Snatch positions question...

So I'm having trouble figuring out how you go from mid thigh to the jump.

So from mid thigh, you go to the "pockets" position where the bar is where your pockets would be but your still bent over the bar just a bit, then from here the next position is the hips pushing forward making the back straight up and down which is similar to the dip of the dip-drive in a push press/jerk??
Sept of Baelor was an inside job. Wildfire can't melt stone masonry.

Here is a snatch progression that helps explain how to sweep then transition to punching the hips.

There is no jumping in weightlifting. We aren't jumping over or on top of anything. Zygmunt Smalcerz, Shin-Ho Kang, and Paul Coffa and Robert Roman are a few coaches who have produced world and Olympic medalists who say "No jumping!"

ok so when the bar moves from above the knee to the crease of the hip, the chest is still over the bar and the back is still tilted right? Then from here you simply push your hips forward w/o flexing or extending the knees in such a way that your back is now perpendicular to the floor? So by now you are:
    back straight
    knees bent slightly
bar position hasn't changed from at the crease of the hip.

    is that right?

You're concerning yourself with the wrongs things, Don't think of it as what position should my back ,hips and legs be in, you'll only confuse yourself.

You have the first pull (which is slow)
Second pull (which happens soon as the bar passes your knees and that's FAST)
Extension (make yourself tall and extend your hips forward) this is where you get your explosive power from. Hips pop forward and you drop.
Being a real lifter is not about a number, or a medal, or somebody else telling you that you are a real lifter. It is about commitment to the iron and strength of purpose.

I agree, as a lifter, you are thinking about the lift in too much detail. When you lift, you don't have time to think about what positions you should be in for every phase of the lift, it happens too fast.
