No chit, working a single min wage job isn't supposed to support someone living on their own, let alone someone with a family. If you're over 18 and still working for min wage full time (and aren't a student or something) you fuked up somehow earlier in life.Sonia Singh of the Workers' Action Centre said the $11 minimum wage is not enough for workers to live on.
"We calculate that the minimum wage at $11 is 16 per cent below the poverty line," she said. "Going up with the cost of living every year is an important step forward, but a minimum wage that's below the poverty line still puts workers behind."
fkn libs when will they learn
edit: btw it was $10.25 before

The problem is that people assume you should only have to work 40 hours a week.
That's the problem. 60 hours a week at minimum wage in Texas 7.25 is a close $20,000 a year. Whic is a lot if you get a roommate and live modest."The Spartans do not ask how many are the enemy, but where are they."

How much do people deserve a year? Honestly. Should people with minimal social value an have no skill or limited skills be able to afford an iPhone, drive a new car (or one at all), newest best clothes.
They deserve enough to afford:
Food
Shelter (adequate not perfect, even if it's just a room)
Sleep
If you can't improve society or have an impact or have skills that are beneficial then you dot deserve an amazing life, you deserve a minimal life."The Spartans do not ask how many are the enemy, but where are they."

Slaves got shelter, food and could sleep.
How can you judge someones ability to improve society (not like most ceos do anything but advance their own agendas) when anyone living in poverty has a very small likelihood of ever getting those skills?
If minimum wage kept up with worker productivity, it would be closer to 20 dollars an hour. Works produce more, work more and the added capital goes into the pockets of ceos, not the workers."If you can read this and still disagree, fantastic; just realize that you’re wrong." - Lyle McDonald

if government mandates 25$ per hour minimum wage then poverty would be eliminated and were all gonna make it brahs.......
actually i think everyone should be paid twice their productivity and employers should be forced to take a loss and shouldnt be allowed not to hire people

The fact is, a vast majority of the people working minimum wage jobs, or jobs paying just below minimum wage, were never given the opportunity to acquire the skills (social, technical and academic) to get "real jobs". Poverty is cyclical. US propaganda of the "American Dream" and the "self made man" keeps people chugging along.
People also mistake raising the minimum wage with a solution for poverty. It is not. Minimum wage is a product of a welfare state. The US (and every other state in a capitalist system) is a welfare state. Raising the minimum wage is another bandage, but sometimes these things are necessary."If you can read this and still disagree, fantastic; just realize that you’re wrong." - Lyle McDonald

I agree it should be raised. Inflation has been raising, wages not so much. Australia has done it right. What's the min wage there? $18-20 something like that. **** is expensive in todays world, so wages increased to help their citizens live normal lives above poverty. Just because you work a **** job doesn't mean you should be barely able to live life, have people stick their noses up in the air at you and look down at you, or be behind on bills for the rest of your life. Most people working these jobs are in their late teens early 20's and are getting a taste of what adult life is like (aka paying for your life, not living off mommy and daddy). They should still be able to live and then earn enough to find a way out if they choose so. It is not good for a country to be filled with people unable to pay bills. A government should want to make sure everyone can support themselves. If Canada wants to increase min wages across the board i'm game for it. Not only that, anyone from Ontario bitching can Stfu. Most of the money for your province comes from taxes of the west *******s

But slaves had no freedom an faced corporeal punishment. People on mimum wage don't face this they purely can't afford the best of things in life.
They have none of they skills as a choice. We have free libraries and ton of outreach programs. These people would rather go home and play video games, gossip, etc. They can move up but they choose not too. Federal loans, grants, etc to get a college education. They choose that life. And they COULD get out of poverty.
And the value of their skills and the such is based on intellectual capital required or said job. Cashiers and the like don't require any intellectual ability purely standing up an pushing buttons."The Spartans do not ask how many are the enemy, but where are they."

Are you saying you don't have any government funded student loan programs that will easily cover the cost of a basic 1 or 2 year trade school diploma, if not more?
Maybe it's completely different in America, but up here you can take out just enough to completely cover tuition and living costs for a solid 4 year education. All it takes is the drive to go do it...Squat: 385

It all stems from some misguided notion that one should think as if they were in the position of the CEO. This is a product of propaganda. If you were to situate yourself in the shoes of someone who must work under minimum wage, you'd like for:
A) enough money to get by while also having;
B) enough time to improve your skills so you can have a better job
Unfortunately, most people lack the ability to think like this"If you can read this and still disagree, fantastic; just realize that you’re wrong." - Lyle McDonald

The funny thing about all the people hating on large corporations and opting to raise the minimum wage to show bigger corporations up is that a higher minimum wage will only help larger corporations. With rising costs for businesses, large corporations can take the L for a year or two and outprice the smaller businesses until they go out of business. Then the large corporations will raise prices and make more profit than before.
( ͡ಠ ͜ʖ ͡ಠ) That's life son ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
