I drove one yesterday , it was a 06 b7 ( I’m a cheap ass when it comes to buying used vehicles) and man ….. I love these cars.
The handling , the interior , the throttle response , the awd system , theyre great cars.
Ofc being a luxury VW you hear all kinds of horror stories but outside of having to do a timing belt/chain and water pump job , are A4s really that bad if you can do your own work yourself ?
Car wizard on YT even recommends them and says they’re really not all that bad for audi.
The 1.8t and 2.8/3.0 v6 tend to go a long time and don’t have many issues is what the consensus seems to be.
I hear constant problems about the early 2.0t , no matter what you do they burn a **** ton of oil and need new piston rings.
Any miscers own one ? I wouldn’t buy one with more than 100k or so and if it didn’t seem well maintained.

Owned a stage 3 b7a4, was super fun wish I kept it. Cam follower every other oil change, oil filter was a pain because it was a cartridge one so potential for it to crack and leak, rear main seal leaked. It used about 3/4 a quart every 5k but that’s normal for Audi specs. Followed basic maint and it got its tb, clutch and coils/plugs as per manual and I got a great 150k out of that thing. Only got it stuck once and it was a snow storm with about two feet of snow down. Sold it to buy a taco cause I had bought a house and needed something to haul Sheetrock and plywood

this is such bullchit. Listen OP - it's a luxury car, it's going to cost more than a Honda. But don't listen to these people talking about 3-10k. Have you ever noticed certain people are always having issues with cars? As with anything, it depends on how hard you drive it (most people don't even seem to realize they are driving hard) and how well you take care of it & maintain it.
The problem with most people who post about Audi's / BMWs or whatever is that they are too young and/or aren't in the financial position to be owning a luxury car IN THE FIRST PLACE. Everybody these days wants to front and pretend to be a big baller and blah blah blah, so they buy a used luxury car trying to save money since they can't really afford it, and then when they get hit will a $3k maintenance bill they freak out because they never really had the money to drive / maintain a luxury car to begin with.
Cliffs: You can either afford luxury cars or you can't. If you are asking this question, odds are you can't.

Wrong boyo, so very wrong. On that A4 had a $6k repair bill and paid it; next year had a $3k repair bill and paid it; next year cylinder lost compression so junked the whole car. That car had a ton of preventative maintenance done all the tim, always OEM parts, etc. Also had two VWs - one had constant electrical issues, the other started rusting really quickly. They're just junk cars that fanboys have unexplained hardons for. My Fusion has not only been more reliable, it's also way faster than any chit A4 or chit GTI.

I had an a4 Quattro. I got it at 40k miles for like 25k and drove it to 70k
From 60-70k I probably sunk 6-10grand in repairs changing out coils etc etc…
After last 3k sunk into it I traded in for the first year of accords coupe, the dealership gave me 800 trade in for the Audi and seemed pissed they had to deal with scrapping whatever they could out of it. They didn’t even want to try to sell it.
Worst car I’ve ever owned in the end. Had some fun but meh. Never again.
My dad loves audis and has several. He sells every single one before 30k miles.

Everyone itt has to be exaggerating or takes their car to a dealer for everything and I wouldn’t trust a dealership to work on a car without a warranty because it’s in their best interest to completely bleed you dry.
They’ll fix one thing then screw with something else to keep you coming back.
I wouldn’t buy a german car I couldn’t work on myself and the only thing that is a little daunting is ones with the belt , idk about doing an actual chain because it’s on the back of the block.
Some people say the belt driven ones are better some say chain
Dunno if I want something with a definite service life or something that’s supposedly stronger but with no definite service life at all.
If I bought one I wouldn’t own it for more than a few years as a commuter unless it was really good to me and I’ll have my tradie Ford SD incase it gives me issues.
As far as VW goes that’s kinda why I’m confused , people praise the reliability of the same era Jetta’s and golfs but Audi is **** ?
It’s just a sexy , dressed up VW , no ?
I would get an Acura TSX or outback , maybe even a beater Camry but holy **** is everything extremely overpriced right now.
A 99 Camry with 230k on the clock for 6k$ and a 05 tsx with 180k that needs a new tranny soon for 10k$ ?

Nah just paying cash. My scores better but when I applied for a auto loan just to see what I’d get my interest rate was really high because I’ve never had a loan before or rented ( got my own place now for the first time).
I like older vehicles anyway but that’s because I can normally fix most stuff and I’m a cheap ass. The newer something is the harder it is to work on.Sig can't be a novel crew
