    Stalled on push exercises only

    HI all.

So I have had 6 months of great progress, but the last 3 weeks I've hit a brick wall on all pushing exercises.

I do an upper lower split- all pulling exercises and leg exercises are still progressing workout to workout but anything that is upper body push related is going nowhere.

This is the first time I've hit a plateau like this, and it confuses me that most exercises are still progressing. That tells me it's not a lack of food or protein that's the problem ( or am I wrong?)

Any ideas or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Ah yes, n00b gains. Those were the days. Start saying goodbye to them. Being able to progress on every exercise in every workout occurs for only a limited period of time when you first start lifting. After that, progress slows down considerably. I'm guessing your upper body push movements haven't stopped, so much as they are now happening at a slower rate. Expect everything else to follow.

It may also be time to revisit your programming selection. If you have indeed stalled, a good program would tell you what to do to deal with it. Post what you're running currently, if there is something that might be more appropriate for your current training stage, someone will be able to suggest it.

As with many of us here who have trained for many years, it takes experimenting with various splits and reps to find out what your body best responds to.

For me, my push exercises respond to a heavy day and a light day within one week. For example if I am on Flat Bench, Monday I will do 4 working sets for 4 to 6 reps. On Thursday, I will do 2 working sets of about 60% of my max, both sets to failure. This can be related to other bodyparts.

If you have been on the same split for 6 months, maybe it is time to change to a new split.
Helping one person may not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.

    - What 'push' exercises are you doing?
    - What days are you doing them each week?
    - How many sets?
    - What rep range?
