When I'm done with my master's in 2 years time, I'm pretty much expected to get a 40-50 hr/week job and do that the next 40 years... with people telling me that hard work will eventually pay off so you just need to "man up". I'm calling BS on this, it does nothing but turn you into a slave who exchanges his freedom to live a mediocre life.
I want to have enough money so I never have to work again by the time I'm 30, so I can truly enjoy life... but thing is you can't really drop out of grad school without having a plan or any idea what to do next. But also the older I get the more I realize that if continue on this path I'll slowly turn into one of those people who I used to feel sorry for. So, any miscers who have been brave enough to say f*ck it, drop out of school/quit their job to pursue their dreams?

yupppp, one of the hardest decisions of my life... to tell my dad/mom that i wouldn't be taking over the family business...
I mean it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I had the chance to grow it from 10-12 employees to a major operation. They built this to give my sister and me a better life.
But life is 1000x better today and I'm getting ready to start my own business doing something I love to do. Follow your heart, brother

I've enticed sin and sinned on this forum with lewd posts. I've turned from my sin and embraced Christ Jesus who died on the cross for my sin. I apologize to anyone that I've offended or harmed through my sinful posts, please pm me if I did so that I can give a personal apology. Jesus died for us sinners and by faith in Him and his work on the cross we are saved, by grace. Amazing grace.

9 or 8:30 - 5 is great for any job where you are employed by someone else. So many people work much longer hours.
I understand your feels though. Just graduated and working full-time straight away, in fact before actually finishing uni. Just want a break to enjoy my time. I'm looking into a few small entrepreneurial things for some extra money on the side and to do out of interest and hoping maybe something will take off. I work good hours, get good pay and am really lucky to be in my position but the thought of working like this for so long is really depressing. It's the monotony and routine that gets to you, not the hours or workload imo. That's why starting your own business is so appealing, more work and hours but more varied.

So, I've been in the real world for say three months almost. I started my new job as a HIPPA compliance officer, sounds fancy but its ****ing crap. Anyhow, I've noticed people seemingly by nature have a propensity to settle. What I mean by that has been said, so I'll just echo, people grow complacent and settle for mediocrity because its safe. It pays the bills, it gives one the illusion of the American dream.
I hate to say it but people ****ing suck, I work with people much older than me who are content going to work just looking at medical records all ****ing day just so they can go home and watch the game on the TV that probably ran up their charge card. People have no real sense of purpose or drive. I may be wrong, I really ****ing hope I am, I truly do.
Once I finish my degree, im going back in the military. I'm going to do ROTC then drop my BUD/S or EOD package. I know im on a high horse, but I had this exact conversation with my mom earlier and its fuvjing baffling as to how people will get tied down for $40k/ year and a 401k.Woodworking crew

If you really want to have enough money to not work again by 30 you'll need to create a successful business/product or win a lottery.
“We pay too much tribute to a few human insects when we let their wrong-doing paralyze our faith in humanity. It is a lie of the cynics that says ‘all men are ungrateful,’ a companion lie to ‘all men have their price.’ We must trust humanity if we would get good from humanity. He who thinks all mankind is vile is a pessimist who mistakes his introspection for observation; he looks into his own heart and thinks he sees the world.”
