    Need help with supplements 20yr female with Anemia

    Well i have a good friend who is a 20 year old female with anemia.

    The iron pills she is given make her sick, and she has a hard time with pills to begin with.

    She also because of the anemia a low immune system, which really makes things hard on

    her.

    I was just wondering what kind of minerals,vitamins and etc she could take to help with her

    immune system and low iron levels?

    *powder form supplements preferred

    Oh boy, what is the cause of her anemia? Is it something genetic or diet specific? Eat more red meat and dark green leafy veges...no supplement is going to be a substitute for eating habits, if that is the case!

    Supplemental iron probably = iron deficiency anemia.


    Same thing I posted in Teen -- vitamin C with iron supplements, limit dairy consumption. Also consider having her talk to her doctor about switching to a chelated iron supplement if she's not already on one...limits problems with bioavailability. The above advice about red meat is also good; there's some debate about whether animal source iron is better than non-animal source iron.
