Question can you get fat from keto diet?

like,... if you are following the diet, eating lots of fats and protein, try eat ~no carbs.

but you eat too much carbsfor some reason, and arent in ketosis.

will all these fats etc be bad for you?

caloric defecit is required in any diet.

keto is generally more lenient because it controls insulin levels and hunger.

however, if you consume more than is going out, you will gain mass. if you consume less, you will lose mass.

The only way to be able to eat whatever you want and not get fat..such as 4000 calories of bacon, cheese and peanut butter all day.. Is if you're also shooting up heroin.

no no thats not what i mean though....

i cant even keep up with my maintenance calories. I mean, does keto only work right when you are on ketosis.

Like is there a hard line between being in ketossis and not?

Yes, but if you're eating too many calories while in ketosis..that's not going to work either.

I don't know about the Netherlands, but eating fat+carbs is why America is so fat in the first place.

    1) If you're not in keto, then you're on another kind of diet, but if you're still losing weight, you can stick with it.

    2) You'll know when you are, and when you're not. You can be a little pregnant, you know? You are in keto or you're not.

well i cant eat very much, i have to force feed myself to meet my maintanence calories.

I am following the keto diet as good as i can, im eating almost no carbs.
But sometimes i just wonder if i am really doing good enough to get in Ketosis.

i dont know exactly what to feel when i am in ketosis. I have noticed some weight loss, and my muscles are showing a bit more. But i dont think i really feel that much of a difference when on this diet.

? think my diet is something like this most of the time.

If you have to force yourself, you are probably over-estimating your maintenance calories. Your real maintenance is the amount you can eat without changing weight, not the amount some on-line calculator says you should eat. If you commute to a desk job, your maintenance is probably lower than the calculators think.
    65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs = keto.

    This a good question.

Very hard to become obese on keto ratios. Funny thing too, it would seem that keto should be a fatten diet because all the fat you take in automatically goes in to the fat cells first, then enters the bloodstream to be burn for energy. The science is very clear that its very hard to become obese using keto ratios. You need to have a good understanding of fat metabolism to understand why its almost impossible to become obese of keto ratios.

Most of the people on bb.com are hard core calories in/ calorie out enthusiasts; and this is understandable. I would suggest you pick up a copy of Good Calories/ Bad calories and read the chapter on fat metabolism. You will see how science really mess up by promoting calories in/ calories out as a cause of obesity. You have to research this yourself

Ummm am I the only one who can see the pic he posted?

Your diet is fine except that you shouldn't be having crackers on Keto even though your carbs are under 20. No idea what that Cheese produce is but since it says 'package" I'd assume it's something overly proccessed. The wrong kind of carbs can keep you out of ketosis.

As for a keto sign... ummm what color is your urine? Any electric or Neon yellow color? Any weird sweet aftertaste in your mouth? Those are the usual signs before actually using a ketone strip and testing it yourself.

Kind of reminds of the line in BodyOpus when Duchiane talks about the guy that was unhappy about his low fat loss on 3 lbs of ground beef and 9 tablespoons of Mayo per day- I think Dan said he was surprised he lost any fat at all.

I'd say it's pretty hard to gain fat. On a huge caloric surplus I've lost (or atleast look like I've lost) a great amount of fat and gained muscle.

You have to stuff yourself like mad to get fat on keto (Which is basically what I do lol; 4k+ calories).

Lyle is saying if you ate more calories on keto than you burned you would have a hard time mobilizing fat? Do you not believe this?

Fact is insulin may be low, but then exogenous free fatty acid oxidation is high. This displaces fatty acids from adipose as a source of fuel.

Diets and macros aside I still think "training" is the only magic bullet that works to increase insulin sensitivity.

If the diet used is crap and the person is losing fitness fat will be harder to lose no matter what macros are being implemented.

Well it is the quality of food that matters the most.

An extreme example would be someone eating dextrose powder, lard, and soy protein powder vs someone eating a keto diet with the highest quality of foods.

The keto diet may have less than ideal "macros" for weight training but the quality of food is better than the diet group using soy, dextrose powder, lard.

I think comparing macros vs macros is somewhat misleading if food quality isn't standardized somehow.

I finally decided to post a progress pic of myself, so here's a good example on how it is PRETTY HARD to get fat off of keto

Keto Bulking at over 4000 calories:

    http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=108526081 (the not-fat pic, lol)

On a regular diet for now to get sum reel musculz. When I cut, it will certainly be keto!

Yeah but that can be really one dimensional.

For example oxidation of carbs increases CO2 production. Increased CO2 can convert to HCO3- which activates lipogenic enyzmes that block fat oxidation.

But other micronutrients "modulate" the consequences of increased CO2 production by increasing HCO3- excretion in the kidney. Namely I am thinking of the potassium in fresh vegetables and fruits. (essential fatty acids also play a role here too)
