Hi, I am 17 years old, i'm 5 ft 9 and i only weigh 52.5 kg.
My arms are really skinny atm and I want to make them bigger but if i go to the gym right now they will only get toned but they will still be small.
Can somebody please reccomend me a good protein shake that is specifically for putting on weight. I want to be putting on a few kilograms before i start going gym.
Your help would be very appreciated.
Thank you.

That is really light for your height but I would say it would be better to just start going to the gym and make sure your in a calorie surplus (eating more than you need to maintain your weight) and that way you will gain weight. You won't just get 'toned' from going to the gym, if you eat in a calorie surplus and get on a good beginner program like SS or SL or something like that you WILL grow.
Hope that helps.
Oh and I've always found that whole milk is your best friend on a bulk. I'm on 3700kcal atm and usually have like half a litre of whole milk with my meals.Last edited by Daniel0636; 07-22-2013 at 06:46 AM.

go to the gym , train heavy with compound exercises (squats, deadlifts, bench press, dips, pull ups, barbell curls, shoulder press) and EAT ALOT ( 5 6 7 8 times a day ) . also take a weight gainer , serious mass or something like that . but eat and train heavy and your arms will grow !
working hard to shock the world.

Thanks for the replies guys.
The problem is that I am vegetarian and i find it extremely hard to put on any weight whatsoever which i why i am looking for a high calorie shake to aid me.
When you say i ''will grow'' do you mean that my arms will get bigger?
Also shall i get a mass gainer then like progain for example or shall i have the milkshake below instead?

I've heard it's cheaper to get calories from real food as opposed to weight gainer shakes but I've never brought one so I wouldn't know. I'm not 100% on what vegetarians are allowed/not allowed. But I can get 1000-1600kcal of a pizza easy or you could have some rice and beans plus a milkshake to make like 1000kcal or chips and and some whole milk or something.
Just two ideas for milkshakes, I make these with some meals and they taste really good!
Strawberry Milkshake - 410kcal
- 140g Strawberries
- 40g Vanilla Ice Cream
- 1 Tablespoon Sugar
- 400ml Whole Milk
or
Banana Milkshake - 500kcal
- 1 Large Banana
- 60g Vanilla Ice Cream
- 400ml Whole Milk
I would figure out your calories and aim for about 2-4 pounds a month. 4 Pounds a month would probably be better for your current situation but I wouldn't go over that.Last edited by Daniel0636; 07-22-2013 at 11:07 AM.

Honestly , you should head over to the nutrition section before even thinking of supplementation. You need to get your diet in check and have a workout routine set up. Supplements are ment to help aid your diet, so once your on a calorie surplus and hitting your macros than we can talk about supplementation. Once you do that, I suggest adding oats, peanut butter, whole milk and a bananna to your protein for a good mass gainer shake. Just off the top of my head, trutein, phase 8, protean, pronom ect. Are great tasting and have very good ingredient profiles.

I'd personally just start having a watchful eye on your intake and add in more calories (eat more food) if you aren't gaining weight. If you wish, you could even add in oats and fruits to your own protein shake. Just because you have a weight gainer doesn't mean you are going to gain weight unless you're actually tracking your intake and being consistent with it!
