Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Power Rack Thread - August 2010 version

This is a collaborative effort from the equipment forum members. The 2008 edition has a lot of broken links and rather than keep that one going we decided to start a new one. First let’s have a few definitions to clear up some confusion. Squat Stands: These are probably the most useless...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Craigslist Thread (Round 3)

The last thread got up over 10,000 posts with too many people asking if they should pick up the bowflex down the street, so it's time to start a new one. Let's all keep our eyes open for the shake weights for .20/lb, strap on our Chucks, and speed away on our unicycles for those sweet pick ups....

Post Sticky Thread Sticky: Barbells - Everything you ever wanted to know

I don't think a thread like this exists for the barbell, so I wanted to start one. The Olympic barbell is one of the most important purchases one can make for their home gym. A barbell is the interface to the weight and although they may all look similar to an untrained eye, there are actually a...

So you are new and dumb enough to believe the Bowflex commercials, before you get flamed and negged into the red, use the damn search function to get the answer to "dude, should I be ignorant and think about getting a bowflex" OK, now if you post another thread, you get what is coming to...

THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO POST STUFF YOU HAVE FOR SALE!!! I'm seeing a lot of people and (some not noobs!) posting items they have for sale in this section. That is not what it is for and is against board rules. There is a craigslist sticky for posting great deals you see but if it isn't a...

I recently purchased a weight set on craigslist that included this bar (see the image attached) and am hoping someone can help me figure out who makes it. Trap Shrugger, Trap Machine, Or Seated Trap Machine (Poll)

I decided to make another poll for trap pieces this time, from the Strength Equipment Inc. site. I assume the Trap Shrugger (No. 235) has the best versatility (Farmers walks) and most core involvement (Looks like a decent piece and I read a previous review on the boards about it). The Trap...

Sore wrists when doing curls. Straps?

Hi guys, When I do standing EZ barbell curls, or preacher curls (EZ bars) I get sore wrists before my biceps hurt. I've been told that my joints (including wrists) are very flexible and are more susceptible to injury, so this could explain why they hurt a bit. Just wondering what a solution...

GYM Equipment Refurb / Repaint Thread

Exclamation Moving Gym into Bedroom with Carpet - Protection Advice Needed

Hi guys, I have had my gym (rack / barbells / bench) in my old home's spare bedroom. It has been fine on the carpet floor and for 4 years ive seen no real damage (tearing) to the carpet other than squashing it flat. We had a thin rubber mat and cheap flat carpet on top. We finally lifted it all up...

OK, hear that the Dicks Fitness Gear 300 lb set is not so great. What about others? Not a lot of big box stores near me but there is a Models that carries a 300 pound Marcy grip set for about the same $$. Again, with a bar that I will not use and likely sell cheap on CL. Or maybe I can get big...

New DSG ETHOS Power Rack & Bench

What do you all think about this, is Dick's making an ACTUAL attempt to sell higher quality equipment? At first glance I thought maybe it's cheap material, but the weight on the bench and rack seems pretty solid (28lbs heavier than a Rogue R4). Front safety spotters, pin-pipe safeties, gusseted...

trap bar on a budget.

I've been eyeing up the cap mega hex bar for a while now watching the price hoping that it falls back to that $92 mark again but so far no luck. I pulled a muscle in my lower back again last week doing deadlifts and I've read that a trap bar can help keep some of the stress and strain off my back....
